    Default Today's Project

Had this old Epiphone in it's case under the bed, decided to haul it out and have a little fun.

That looks really cool. Some black pickup surrounds wouldn't go astray though...

    I like it. Well done.

    Great collection too

"A lot of people ask me which Van Halen singer was better. You can't compare them. It's like asking which guitarist is better. Nobody is better than anybody. Every player is their own person."-Edward Van Halen

Looks very cool indeed . Fits in nice with the other guitars .

Was that Epiphone one of those Pro f/x models ?

    ^^^ Cool .
I almost bought one (used) but decided against it . Yours looks super sharp now , with the EVH treatment . How does it play ?

Don't really care for how the neck feels, I'm going to take it to my friend that builds guitars and have him do a new back profile.

Thanks for the reply . I've never tried one of those guitars , so I was curious if they were decent or not .
Always liked the idea of a Les Paul w/Floyd , after seeing that pic of Eddie and his LP w/Floyd , with the real Les Paul ...

The Epiphone looks great. I wonder why Ed never painted one of his Les Pauls.

Alex Lifeson plays a lot of Gibsons with tremolos -- I guess those are customs? I've never looked into that.

    Cool 5150!

Didn't Gibson do this for him (with the Steinberger TransTrem) when he was ending his Kramer endorsement around '90...trying to "woo" him into their fold?

...at least that's how I remember the story. But this WAS a factory custom job and NOT a driveway rattle-can one-off...

Yep, Neal Schon also had Gibson make him Les Pauls with Floyds going way back...

I believe you are correct. And he said he wished they hadn't done something. Stripe it? Put a trem on? Whatever it was it seems it soured him on Gibson. Another company trying to give him what they think he wants instead of listening to him was the gist I think.

I prefer Strat type bodies for myself and think Ed should stick with them too. I'm glad he didn't go with Gibson. Nothing against them. I'd like a nice R9. Thinking about a Pearly Gates replica project. Strats sit better on me and I lick better for some reason compared to my Wolfgangs. Archtop maybe?

I believe if I remember correctly Ed never minded this Paul with the trans trem on it. It was the LP that they put the floyd on that he just did not like.... I have an article where he says, "I wish they hadn't put that damn floyd on it" but I think the striped tranny model he used a few times. Matter a fact in the Guitar Aficionado I think he says he used it in Me Wise Magic but thats also strange because back in 97 he says he used a PV Wolf with a tranny on it for that tune. I don't think Ed remembers what the hell he did back then. ha ha
