Default Ex-MTLEY CRE Singer JOHN CORABI In Discussions With MICK MARS About Writing New Mus

John Corabi, former lead singer of MTLEY CRE, THE SCREAM and UNION, says that he plans to collaborate again with MTLEY CRE guitarist Mick Mars after the completion of the CRE's "The Final Tour".

Corabi originally joined CRE in 1992 as the replacement for the group's original singer, Vince Neil, who was fired due to personal differences. With Corabi on vocals, MTLEY CRE released one critically acclaimed full-length CD, which ended up being a commercial failure in the wake of grunge despite a Top-Ten placing on the album chart. When Neil returned to the fold in 1997, Corabi was left on his own and formed the band UNION with ex-KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick.

In a 2012 interview, Mars stated about MTLEY CRE's 1994 self-titled album: "I thought that was probably To me, and I can only speak for me, I think that was probably the best album we've done. Musical-wise, the songs, I felt, were strong. And just musically, to me, it was, I guess, my BEATLES 'White Album'; that's kind of how I feel about that one. I'm not saying that any of my other albums are crummy or anything like that I love every album that we did but that one just has a special thing for me."

Asked if there are any plans for him to work with Mars again, Corabi told Jack Antonio of the "Do You Know Jack?" radio show (hear audio below): "Yeah, actually I was just talking to him the other day. A lot of people already know about it, but as soon as he's done doing this next tour, Mick and I have had some discussions about possibly going in and doing some writing together and doing a record, and maybe going out and doing some shows. So we'll see how that works."

Corabi also talked about what it was like playing guitar for MTLEY CRE during the tour in the support of the band's self-titled album and being the guy that Mars could "bump ideas off." He said: "Mick's a great player. He really doesn't need anybody to bump ideas off of. I just basically Me being able to play [guitar], and play as well as I do, allowed Mick to do Mick didn't have to worry about, 'Okay, I've gotta play the rhythm here.' 'Okay, I've gotta [break into] the solo,' 'Now I've gotta get back to the rhythm.' He had the freedom to just be the lead guitar player, and I was able to cover up and do whatever rhythms he asked me to do that gave him freedom to be that lead guy. And I think he enjoyed it."

Corabi previously told Philadelphia's 93.3 WMMR radio station about the possibility of collaborating again with Mick Mars on the MTLEY CRE guitarist's forthcoming solo album: "I don't know what he wants to do musically, but at the end of the day, I love Mick Mars he's one of the sweetest human beings you'll ever meet in your life and anything I can do to help him with his solo record, I would be more than happy to do. I appreciate the fact that Mick has been just stupidly supportive of what we did in the past, and I appreciate Mick's talent as a guitar player; I think he's totally underrated. And anything I can do to help him, he's more than willing to help me with what I wanna do. So we'll have to see where it goes from there."

I heard Mick started playing Hooligans Holiday for a sec when Motley played here over the summer and Vince was PISSED but I'm not sure about that rumor...

I didn't 'get' the Crue album they did with Corabi . It didn't resonate with me and I didn't care for the material . By all accounts though , the band was please as punch , and digging the new direction . Where have we heard that before ? LOL

Any-hooo , Mick and John doing some sessions together can't be a bad thing . I might get slammed because of their labels , but I dig Motley Crue . I always liked them . Mick Mars is a riff specialist with a monster tone . He's a slamming guitarist too IMO . Much respect goes his way from me ...

THE Motley record with Corabi is GREAT. Easily the best thing I've heard them do. the guy can sing like a monster. Just check out Smoke the Sky...Damn..he's a monster on that record.

I've got a few things he did with Union and that is quality stuff as well.

I'd have to go back and really listen to it again (I don't currently own it) , because I don't remember any of the songs except HH .
That Crue book 'The Dirt' is a great read , and the guys seemed to love working with Corabi - until the hammer came down from $$$ (or lack of sales) and fan backlash .

Again ... where have we heard that before ? Haha
    It's all good

I was thinking the other day:

I like VH more with Sam

I like Sabbath more with Dio

I like the Crue more with Carobi

I like Anthrax more with John Bush

    .....that's just strange...lol

It would be a great record, better than anything Motley has released since, well, 1994. I really hope these guys do collaborate, and it always kind of bothered me that Corabi had to do side acts like Union or play rhythm in Ratt (both bands I love) when he's so talented he should have more exposure and a bigger catalogue.

The 94 CRUE cd is definitely worth going back and checking out again. A few gems if you like the harder, edgier side of Motley Crue. If you dig back a bit in the "Official Motley Crue" thread we have discussed most of the songs from the record. http://www.vhlinks.com/vbforums/thre...ghlight=motley

As Bad2thebone mentioned. "Smoke the Sky" is a great track. Tommy, Nikki and Mick are very solid. Corabi's voxs give it a rougher edge. No glam here.

Is there a song in the catalog that you haven’t gotten to play that you’d like to play with Motley Crue before things wrap up?

There’s several. Some of the songs that we recorded on the ‘Motley Crue’ album with John Corabi, I would like to have done. When Tommy [Lee] wasn’t in the band on ‘New Tattoo,’ there’s a couple on there that I thought were pretty good that we should have been doing too. But yeah, there was a couple on each of those that I thought were really, really good.

I had the chance to see John play a show recently playing that entire ‘Motley Crue’ album and as you’re probably aware, fans have a lot of love for that record.
Definitely. I think it’s a really, really great album.

It's one of Motley Crue's best albums. Very heavy and underrated.

I agree with Anthrax with Bush and maybe even Crue with Corabi, but definitely cant with the first two.

A new Corabi & Mars project sounds good to me. Maybe Mike Anthony should join on bass...
And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both thats intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion. - David Lee Roth
