Default Which Genesis Singer Is Better Solo: Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins? [POLL]

This one is for fans of Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins or any combination of the three!

I'm a fan of both guys but if I had to pick I guess it's Phil Collins but not by much. Gabriel's voice is better but I'm a big drums guy so Collins wins by a fraction just because I love his drumming so much.

Tough call but I gave the nod to Phil soley because of "In the Air Tonight". When you look at it, Phil Collins was everywhere in the 80's and 90's.

Yeah he definitely was. He eventually took a bum rap for recording ballads which is silly to me. If you don't like the ballad just skip to the next track. Some of those ballads I liked too. "Against All Odds" is a cool song.

When you look at the entire solo catalogs of Gabriel and Collins, Gabriel comes out on top hands down with both songs and in voice. His oeuvre has more depth to it artistically than Phil's. No question, it's Gabriel for me.

Hard to say - back then, I would've said Collins hands down. And he's probably still ahead. But I've been thinking of getting more Gabriel - I only own So - he's got a bunch of great songs when you add them up - "In Your Eyes", "Games Without Frontiers", "Sledgehammer", "Solsbury Hill", "Biko", "Big Time", "I Don't Remember" and on and on...

And the horns in many of Collins' song tend to annoy me anymore. I like the ballads - "Against All Odds", "Separate Lives", "One More Night", etc.

Gabriels third Solo Album ('Melt' - if you want to hang a name on it) is a cracker imho. Go get it Billy.

I'll give him the nod I think. Both guys have had outstanding careers.

Nope not that one Font. The cover art before you hit play is right but it's a different album - I think that one is his second album (Scratch).

Would have been helpful if he gave some of his early albums proper names of course

You're right. That is "Scratch" (or his second album). I should have known better to trust YouTube.

"Melt" (or his third album) begins with "Intruder" which has Phil Collins on drums which is the first time the gated-reverb effect was ever used which followed on every Genesis album thereafter.
