Default What Happend To The "Van Halen Is Gearing Up For A Big 2015"?

Isn't that what Jeff said a while back?
Going by what Eddie said last week about not knowing where Dave is and such, how can they be gearing up for a big 2015 when you got Dave out there somewhere, Wolf playing VH's first album on a cruise ship and working on his own album. Mike not involved with the band (sorry EC) and Sammy retired doing his own part time gig thing and no way he comes back without Mike.
A live album and some remasters hardly constitute a big year.

    Just sayin...............
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

They meant it's a big year because they are each gonna take 5 vacations.

Uhhh... 2015 is a little over six weeks old, and they've already announced a live album and Eddie appeared at the Smithsonian for a Q&A. Maybe give them another minute or two to roll out some stuff, yeah?

What that they owe money by April 15th? lol
EVH 1979: Well, actually it's not much of a vacation, because we run everything ourselves. We design our own album cover, we have to be in the office every day to sign checks - the whole corporation revolves around us. Nothing can be done without our approval. We even have photo approval.

I agree with you, but I don't think it's a bad question at this point considering Dave is AWOL and what we just heard from Eddie was this:

"the guitarist is ambivalent, noting that the group has no immediate plans to record or tour."

Correction: We heard that there are no plans to tour from Peter Voskamp.

see what happened was they were gonna have a big year. then Dave did a "rothshow" where he put all these cryptic messages demanding Mike be back in the band. Ed then realized he hasn't spoken to Dave in about 6 months, has no idea where he is, where he lives or anything and since Ed somehow doesn't know how to use a phone to call Dave decided Dave is totally AWOL. Ed wanted to have a big year but since Dave hasn't called him (and remember Ed somehow doesn't know how to call Dave) that got put on hold. Instead, they are taking a Tokyo show, retouching everything but Dave's vocals and releasing that.....then when Dave complains to Ed that his stuff was not touched up Ed will say "well you never called us so we assumed you were cool with it"

I'm just responding to Eddymon's plea that a "big 2015" doesn't seem to be in the cards-- like I said, we have another 45 or 46 weeks to go, and as Roth has said, it's part of their M.O. these days to perpetuate the idea that they're about break up at any minute. So A) grain of salt to whatever the band says their situation is, and B) we're barely into 2015.

Also, RS noted Eddie's "ambivalence"-- in other words, he seemed contradictory or inconclusive or uncertain. I'd love to hear what his tone or see what his body language was beyond RS's interpretation. It could be that he just didn't have an answer and was equivocating-- and RS interpreted that as a negative. Let's remember that RS's reporting of the 2012 tour cancellations was that it was because "a source with knowledge of the tour tells Rolling Stone that Van Halen's members 'hate each other.' Adds the source, 'The band is arguing like mad. They are fighting.'" We know know that they were getting along okay, and Eddie had a scary case of diverticulitis. So I'm not sure I buy RS's reading of Eddie's statement as advertised.

But who knows with this band?

You're right, it's early. I think there's reason for concern but we should wait and see for now. For me the next big thing to look for is will Dave come out of hiding by release day for the live album. If not, I think things are really bad.

What difference does it make. They know their musical legacy is going to end up in the giant shit pile called "free streamed classical rock" on cable along with bigger (eg. Led Zeppelin) acts than themselves. Its all about milking this dying cow dry before its dead.

VH isn't even a nostalgia road show now (making an album to sell for .50cents a unit to support a tour is nonsense). Ed's ego will never risk half empty stadiums.

    Its strictly a soap opera.

And in other news, ultimaterhoads.com is off the air. Maybe the constant bickering over all the lawsuits finally took its toll.

Actually Randy Rhoads saw the future 30 some years ago: Save the money on electric guitar, drums, amps, etc and learn classical guitar. It doesn't pay to make a rock album any more.

But they aren't milking it at all, at least not the music side of things. There are no unreleased tracks, alternate takes, concert DVD's, etc. Please Ed take my money, but I want the "10 CD's worth of material" not the striped flip-flops.
