Default Best Van Halen Studio Album with DLR Poll

Vote for what you think is VH's best studio album with DLR.

(I'd have included all VH albums, but the board limits all polls to ten options).

    1984 .

It was Eddie's baby , conceived at his new 5150 studio . The tunes are great and the album sounds huge . Very impressive , sonically .

I voted for the debut album, and I'm biased, mainly because of the impression it made on me in 1978.

I had never heard anything like that before.

    The debut is a smokin' mo-fo !!!
It's my 2nd fav , and it's almost neck and neck with 1984 on my list .

    Women And Children First

This album was the band evolving into different song structures. They began to move away from the 3 minute songs into longer songs with extended intros and outros, letting the Brothers' incredible skills shine. This was their most eclectic mix of songs to date, also with the first use of keyboards and more accoustic guitars than the first two albums.

To this day, Ed's tone on this album is still my very favorite. Raw and heavy. Along with the two '96 tracks, this is my favorite drum sound for Al, and he uses a wide array of drums on WACF. Even though it has more overdubs than I and II, this album to me is the most "live" sounding, with great interplay between Ed and Al. All of the songs sound like they could have been recorded in one masterful take.

This is Dave at the full height of his skills as the Circus Ringmaster. The bluesy, whiskey soaked growl, the over the top humor, sly wit, jazz influenced scatting, and of course the rabid screams are all on display. Combined with Mike's harmonies, these are my favorite vocals of any VH album.

EWS, Romeo Delight, and LOC are still my top 3 songs of all time, and In A Simple Rhyme is in the top 10. In short, this is the perfect VH album, and seems to be very under appreciated by many fans. It wins by a hair over ADKOT and Fair Warning.
