Default Titanium frets on EVH Wolfgang?

    http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smiths...954248/?no-ist

Did Ed misspeak describing the frets on his guitar or is this an EVH only thing that isn't available on the production models?

It’s a natural evolution of many, many things that I’ve stumbled onto while building guitars—the Wolfgang has a locking tremolo on it and a patented device called a D-Tuna, which works with the low E string—by clicking a switch you can automatically drop down to a D. The frets in my current guitar are made out of titanium so they don’t wear out. And the volume knob is very, very easily turned and really smooth all the way from zero to ten. So there’s no sudden surge like many other guitars.

It also has a kill switch: when you push the button, it cuts off the sound in the guitar completely, so you can do special effects with it. It’s a state-of-the-art guitar, and includes all the things I’ve learned over the years.

Based on the mention of the kill switch I would say he is talking about his personal guitar.
I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

That's kind of what I was thinking too... That could also explain the slight difference in his tone and people who own the newer Wolf's and the Stealth amps...

Sounds like Ed's main guitar(s) have some extra 'souped up' mojo to them . That actually doesn't surprise me too much . It fits with his "always tinkering and putzing" statements about chasing tone and feel .

What I'm wondering is ... why titanium ? In the EVH Wolfgang promo video , Chip mentioned that Ed played a whole tour with a prototype model with stainless steel frets , and that the guitar looked as good as new . If it ain't broke don't fix it ...

    Yeah , I know that .
Was just curious as to why he went that route with the frets , if the SS ones were supposedly indestructible ?

I get that Ed is always trying to fix/change things that don't do what he wants them too , yet I thought he was over the moon happy with the fret wire on his EVH Wolfgangs ? "A major breakthrough" is what he called them at the time .

I'm not sure what the benefit is of titanium over Stainless. Anyone know?

    ..My guess is he misspoke.

Either he mis-spoke or it's just something new he's trying.

Stainless steel will wear out. They just last a lot longer before they do.

He didn't misspeak..his frets are titanium.

This would be the first time I've ever heard of titanium frets. Have you ever heard of titanium frets before?!
