I think Edward and Al respect Mike. Saying you're sorry( all party's- no fault presumed) or re-connecting after a break-up is hard.

I do know as much as some fans want to belittle Mike's contribution, the bands rock/music contemporaries have never done that. All you ever hear is praise for the band...not just Edward and Dave. When Chickenfoot was forming, I remember reading that Flea asked Chad what it was like to play/jam with Mike. He was stoked for Chad that he was playing with him. Fans are fans...they will always have favorites or choose sides. As a fan, I guess I see it more through the eyes of other musicians. If that makes any sense.

A lot of people in the industry know that Mike's harmonies were a major component of the VH sound.

Now, we can say "well Ed was singing too" but let's be real here.

Dave himself has waxed poetic about MA's contribution to the overall sound of CVH.

Let no one minimize Mike's bass playing or vocals anymore.

    They are sorely missed...

Oh, and before I forget...let me add the obligatory,

"I'm in no way denigrating Wolf's contribution".

I disagree with your guys on one point.

I don't think Ed really ever thought much of Mike's contributions. From the early 80's on, he was either trying to replace Mike or cutting his ownership share. That is not respect in my book, that is the exact opposite.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

It just proves how delusional he was.

Nobody took the bait, because it would have changed the classic sound. Intelligent musicians understood that (Sheehan).

It's fine for Ed to have his opinion but that opinion is not shared by the rock community. Ed's on an island all by himself in that respect.

I think there's a rather large difference between Ed respecting Mike and Ed thinking Mike should get a 25% share. Sam respects Mike, right? Doesn't mean they split Chickenfoot credits 4 ways.

If Ed respected Mike, he wouldn't have been trying to replacing him. To me it is that simple.

if he didn't respect him then he wouldn't have been in the band for decades. To me it's that simple.

    Yep.

Most of the anti mike stuff came after he chose sam over the band. We need to take this into account. If he really had no respect for him he had the ability to remove him from the band whenever he wanted and replace him with someone who's draw a much smaller paycheck. The fact he never did tells us something.

    This.

The respect for Mike personally, was always there.

I can pull up another video from OU812 era where Ed said "without him Van Halen would not be..."

I believe he was outnumbered by Dave, management, and maybe Al on that one. Remember that he wanted Sheehan in the band for years. He's had a hard on for Mike forever.

For every , Edward wanted him gone for years, there are stories /articles where Edward praises Mike. Mike playing with Sam is what Edward is really (still) bent about.

Mike is very respected among his same age peers. I asked Sheehan,Jeff Berlin, and Stu Hamm their opinions of Mike after a B3 show in Baltimore.
(they all just hung out with the sparse crowd after the gig). They just could not stop with praise for him. This was about when Ed dumped him for Wolf and I suggested to Billy that they call him and get him to tour on a B3 or 4. Billy said jokingly then they would have harmony. Don't forget they tried to get Berlin too at one time.
