Default More VH Weirdness - All VH Pulled From HD Tracks

HD Tracks has a 20% off sale on downloads of hi-res audio albums this weekend. For quite some time they had the first 6 Roth era albums available for individual album downloads or as a "Complete Studio Collection" as well as "5150" in hi-res audio as well and they are all gone from the site. Might be coincidence, might be tacky cheapness on HD Track's part (although numerous other "complete studio" collections including other WB artists like Black Sabbath are still listed on the site), might be something going on with Warner Bros and/or VH... very strange, regardless.

Maybe they are getting a better cut from Pono, and dropped HDTracks in the process.

Someone on the Steve Hoffmann forums emailed HD Tracks and got this interesting response:

"The Van Halen titles were taken down last week by the record label. This is due to their loss of their rights to those albums. We apologize for the inconvenience."

Doesn't make sense with the albums still being sold on Pono's website, but if Warner Bros actually no longer holds the rights to the VH catalog, that could have huge implications for eventual re-remasters, deluxe editions w/bonus tracks, box set(s) and most importantly, classic Roth era live releases if VH go with another label like Interscope. The wealth of unreleased material is a big bargaining chip. Regardless, I'm tempted to finally pick up the HD downloads of the Roth albums from Pono in case they disappear in the near future. The general consensus is the HD audio releases are by far the best the six pack has ever sounded in any audio medium.

Yeah you gotta love it. That came up a few times before it makes perfect sense.

See, now this is the kind of stuff I appreciate around here. Any old site can conjure up the typical VH reunion/tour/album rumor here and there. This type of "deep cut" weirdness is what this place attracts, and what connects the dots to all the other ones. Nice find T.B.

Wasn't there some recent report that said that the ownership of those masters would possibly be reverting to VH from WMG?

My untrained ears would likely not notice a difference, but the last sentence makes me want to buy them regardless for some reason.

This has me a tad bit confused now.

Today's leaked press release from the Canadian radio station is from Universal Music Canada. They distributed ADKOT on Interscope.

But the press release mentions the 6 Remastered albums release on Warner Brothers.

Theres a Deluxe Edition box with the new double live album and VH 1 and 1984. So one would assume they are all on the same label now.

So then Universal Music Canada distributes both Interscope and Warner Brothers releases.

But the email stated Warner Brothers lost the rights to those albums.

ADKOT was on Universal Music Canada, but the DJ has now corrected himself:

106.7 THE DRIVE Sorry, I had the wrong label...it was Warner Music Canada.

I'm sure there is a good story there.

I'd simply begin by playing Ed's words for Ed, starting @ 10:25:

"And without him Van Halen would not be." - EVH.

    So right, Ed. So right.
