Default Should I stripe my musicman EVH/Axis style natural quilt knock off body?

The guitar can be see here on the right (because all of you wouldn't know which one it was /sarcasm)

Every day now I'm getting closer to wanting to finish the body in RBW stripes.
What do you all think? I know some people have done this before. I'd probably finish it with a coat of _____.
I need a little help here, I'm still new at all this.

    Thanks all! -Dave

I dunno... The guitar has a nice quilt top on it as is! But if you did the B&W pictured it looks like you did a good job, so go for it.

Personally , I'd leave it as is . I really like the natural quilt .
I recall seeing a great pic of Eddie with a natural quilt EBMM . It was overseas , when they were opening for Bon Jovi . Always loved that shot ! Plus , you don't see too many of them around , as opposed to the influx of r/b/w style guitars .

    Just my opinion ...

Yup, that guitar started as a $15 craigslist strat knockoff. Now it plays like a beast, except for the shitty tuners I need to replace. Painted it myself!

I have a purple Ax40 now, with no RBW guitar, and it's my favorite body. I think I'll do it.

The body has NO paint on it right now. Just bare wood on the back and the quilt veneer on the top (it may have been dyed cream, I have no idea how maple quilt production works, I'll look into that now). It's the rawest guitar I have, and I don't feel an axis body should be raw and unfinished. In my head it just doesn't match up.
I don't know, MAYBE doing a green or blue instead of red. That'll be different, and I can still paint an authentic style RBW Franky.
About the other guitar, the next thread I'll be posting (sometime soon) will chronicle the story of every guitar in my collection, with pictures and video of my journey from beginner to advanced novice (ha) over the last two years.

I say, get the pickup rings off of it, fill the screw holes with wood filler and direct mount the pickups, and then stripe the shit out of that bitch!

If I remember right, the EBMM that he had striped up was only striped on the top, and the back was black. Anybody out there confirm that?

You're right , and I actually prefer Ed's EBMM that way ... Click image for larger version.

Well, I'm going through with it.
    Here we are right now.

I've striped around the binding, now I guess I just go all over with the black paint. Is this the best way to protect the binding?
    Any suggestions?

I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out !
To be honest , I've been thinking about having my magenta AX40 redone with Ed's r/w/b scheme .

First good for you. I'd do it too. Second I'd say definately put tape over the binding. Time consuming to get it right, but it's gotta be done.

Since you're going through with it you should definitely ditch the pickup rings like no bozos said.

I've always dug the other striped EBMM, seen in this random pic and briefly in the Poundcake video...

Interesting... no binding on that one. And he changed the neck pickup at some point it looks like. I don't think I ever noticed that that one was a different guitar from his other striped EBMM!

Looking forward to see how yours turns out, Yaminub!
