I thought that logo was credited to DLR. Must have just been using Van Halen as the name for the band.

The band hasn't really given Dave Bhang a lot of credit for designing an essential part of VH's image.

I didn't know he had also designed the Montrose debut cover. Apparently he retired/died at the end of the 70s??

Glad you guys checked out this Ultimate Classic Rock piece that I wrote! Just a cool little tidbit from their early days -- Bhang is credited on the LP for creating the Classic VH logo. I was never able to find out who created the "punk" logo.

I could swear it was Mark Stone. Please double check that.

Stone designed the 1973-era VH logo, that was written out like 'vanhalen.' I don't think that logo was utilized much by the band beyond 74, other than appearing on some effects and guitar cases that dated from that era.

The Mark Stone logo is on t-shirts that the band (well at least Ed, Al and Dave) were wearing into at least 1978. Doug Anderson has one of the shirts in his shop, or at least the "Van Halen museum" portion of his shop.

I love the logo and would love to try to see a replica of the old shirt made...it should be pretty easy for one of the talented replica builders use a screen capture of the shot of Mark holding up the drawing of his logo and transfer it to a t-shirt going up the side of the front part of the shirt in white letters. THAT would be more impressive to me as a Van Halen fan than the most detailed replica!

VHND has this really cool page about Gazzarri's with more about the logo.

    BTW:
Rudy was Eddie Van Halen's guitar tech for at least 10 years and has introduced Van Halen to every audience around the world for just as long. (You can hear him on EVERY VH show bootleg.) Rudy left with Dave after Eddie kept him for 10 years (since '74).Rudy was Ed's next door neighbor since they were little kids.

Don't want to derail the topic and go off on a rant but that damn VH Net site has a lot of nerve adding their watermark to that picture and making it appear as its their pic when they just got it from the net like anyone else. They have absolutely no rights to it at all. The guy in charge of that site is something else. He attempts to manipulate VH fans into thinking he knows EVH personally and has some connection to the band and inside info which he doesn't at all he's a complete liar and fraud. I looked through their FB page a couple months ago when Melodicrock posted their rumours about VH which were all proven to be false. Interesting how VH Net just happened to pop up back online around the same time period. I can't prove that they are both in cahoots but there are numerous examples of VH Nets bullshit. He claims to hear things about what's going on and post stuff then quickly delete it. Puts up pictures from other people then claims it's his picture and answers questions about it. He's the one who impersonated Wolfgang on FB a while back. The guy's a complete flake as I see it.

Anyhow I was surprised to see Mike wore an old school Mark Stone logo shirt on the 2004 tour.
