The Who is my favorite band followed by Van Halen. I always felt Entwistle was the best bass player to ever play and never got any credit. I thought it was great when Van Halen included Won't Get Fooled Again on RHRN. Even though Alex's drum work is just plain horrible and you see the genius of Keith Moon when a great drummer like Alex can't even begin to do him justice. it isn't a bad version though.
Then on the Sammy 10/13 DVD you see Entwistle back stage in Cabo San Lucas during the birthday bash and Hagar comments he is going to play some The Who. Hagar says this of John "He just was the most humble rock star I have ever met, besides having the best hands of any bass player in the history of rock and roll," added rocker Sammy Hagar. So very true no one did it better and I doubt anyone will ever even come close.
If you want a little peace, sometimes you got to fight
We got to walk through the darkness
Before we stand in the light.

As a big Who fan, I was saddened to hear about the loss of one of the best and unique bass guitarists. I though VH did a great job with 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. It's not an easy song to play drums on.

    RIP - John Entwistle

Alex has a unique style of playing that does not always transcends well to other people's music and he has what may be the worse drum sound ever recorded and an even "worser" live sound.
VH's version of WGFA is.. well.....besides Alex's terrible drum sound and hager's singing the wrong lyrics... it's a "decent" version.. Mike plays good...

Unfortunatly, 'unique' often times means 'limited.' There are many 'schooled' drummers who can play the song correctly. Alex is a good drummer, but when compared to some of the greats like Buddy Rich or Terry Bozzio he's lacking. But he does have a unique style which is perfect for rock playing. He just seemed to be the weak link on that particular cover tune.

    RIP John.

What I am about to post is really an opinion, but thought this was a good topic for it.

I have always thought of VH with Dave as the American equilvalent to Led Zeppelin.
    while
VH with Sammy as the American equivalent to The Who.

Both great bands, just a little different.

It was sad when John died. I have tickets to see the in August, and was really looking forward to seeing him. I think he, Daltrey, and Townsend are all amazing, and I have often defended him as my choice for the best bass player of all time.

Hey who doesn't like his bass playing, man the guy new how to work those notes, and for Sam to pay tribute is great, Mikey also pays tribute on his Website.
