Just more info MTV & VH1 probably dont want the general public to know.. hehe

In the 1970's, arguably their most kick ass and creative era, Aerosmith released 6 studio albums bewteen 1973-1979. These albums sold a grand total of about 4 million copies in the U.S.
That's 4 million COMBINED, ok? The self proclaimed Greatest American Rock Band had 6 studio albums that totaled 4 Million sold right here in the good ole' USA.

Their first 3 albums went Gold, then Rocks & Draw the Line went platinum. 1979's Night in the Ruts then went gold.

Van Halen's first two albums, released in early 1978 & early 1979, both went multi-platinum pretty much in the same year each was released. Not to mention they soared up the charts cracking the Top 20 & top 10. That' something Aero did only with the Rocks album, which I think went to no.4 on the charts... Not to mention EVH winning the Best Guitar Player award in Guitar World those first two years. In fact, he won it each of his first 5 years on the scene and then they retire you cuz you can only win 5! Sorry Joe Perry...

Another wild fact is Aero's most succesful period was actually 1976 thru 1978. It started with Toys in 75', which went Gold. That enabled their first two albums, which had pretty much flopped, to comeback and go Gold in 75' as well. Then Rocks went Gold in 76' and cracked the Top 10.. Draw The Line was their fastest album to go platinum and that was in 1977. Also, they released Live Bootleg(live cd) in 1978 which also went platinum that year. Not to mention Aero was one of the top concert draws around. It was during this high period that VH got signed in 1977 and then debuted in Feb. 78'. Hence driving a stake through Aero's stupid story that Aero was winding down & washed up at that time and left a gaping hole for VH to come in and succeed.

Of the 63 Million albums Aero has sold in the U.S., the majority of those sales came after 1986?!?! Like 80% of their sales came after 1986.
I'm not joking, its the damndest thing.
Man, they should really, REALLY thank Rick Rubin & Run DMC.. And MTV of course... Oh, and their hired songwriters..lol.. And their marketing team cuz whoever handles their press and are their spin doctors really earned their keep.

Let's not forget that Aerosmith began this current streak of hits only after they started bringing in outside collaborators such as Run Dmc, Desmond Child etc. I think that they haven't had a good album since Done With Mirrors which was 17 years ago. VH had a string of multiplatinum albums up until VH III. However it was there first six with Dave that earned them their place in rock history and it was coincidentally the same time period in which Aerosmith lost their crown as America's top rock act not to mention VH blowing Aerosmith's wasted asses off the stage when they played those festival shows with them.

Well, they did whip their ass live. But I believe that happened wether Aero was straight or sober.
All bands seemed like they partied back then. Hell, even Foreigner was coked up & crazy! lol..

VH's new style of rock was just too much for Aero and everyone else. Aero seemed like a plodding sludge band next to VH. That wasnt easy to pull off cuz Aero was a great live band and had like 5 albums of material to work with. VH had just hit the scene. That was VH's first year touring and they only had that one album they where debuting to the world!

Another thing to make you go hmmmm?

Aerosmith has claimed, on MTV and in their book 'Walk This Way', that VH was just "one of several bands filling a gap they left in hard rock while they hit the skids in the early 80's"..

If this is true, how come when Aero came back to uh, 'reclaim' their place and fill the void/gap whatever, VH didnt disappear?

In fact, Aero's comeback, beggining in 1986 with their Run DMC collabo, coincides precisely with Sammy joining VH! Van Hagar and 'new' Aero began at the same time!

We all know the Sammy era produced 4 straight no. 1 multi-platinum studio albums. Plus 11 no. 1 hits on the Mainstream Rock Chart(World Record)
VH continued on packing arenas and headlining despite basically ignoring all the Dave era material live! Plus VH won Video of The Year in 1992 for their groundbrewaking video for the anthem 'Right Now'.. Not to mention EVH still winning a ton of readers polls in Guitar Mags left and right!
Aerosmith didnt have that kind of overall success, despite becoming MTV whores and using outside songwriters. VH was still disgustingly succesfull even during Aero's comeback or whatever. And while Aerosmith accepted things like MTV Unplugged and Woodstock 94', VH turned those down! Despite it being reported VH was one of the very first bands contacted for both events..

Aerosmith as well as those firms working w/them are really smart. If you keep repeating statements like the ones stated above, the general public as well as anyone else in the media accept it as Gospel. Especially when there isn't anyone(like VH), to step into that void and refute them. I also agree that I haven't been that crazy about Aerosmith since Done With Mirrors, but then again that album tanked in sales. Once they went in a more pop oriented direction, Aerosmith has been on a gravy train only stopping for the sopping of a biscuit!

Lots of revisionist history from the Aerosmith camp, no doubt. I didn't realize the extent of it. Damn.

But I will say this for Steven, Joe and Co. -- those dudes make their fans happy and treat them with a healthy amount of respect. They got past a lot of internal BS and made things happen. They can still put on a good show.

Meanwhile, we get our Van Halen news from a golf magazine. And we wait.

Steven Tyler on the upcoming Christmas episode of The Disney Channel's "Lizzie Maguire"! Now that's what I call fan friendly. His kids are also in the episode.

I'm hoping for the EVH and Wolfie episode of "Even Stevens".

I was talking more like putting out albums and touring, having a real website, keeping fans in the loop.

But speaking of TV appearances, according to the Metal Sludge message board Vince Neil will be the next B-list rocker to appear on Hollywood Squares. No idea if this is true but it's creating a lot of negative buzz over at the Sludge.
