Default Any love for Eddies "Sacred Sin" tracks??

What was Ed thinking back then? or wasn't he thinking at all?
Has to be Eddie at his lowest place recording-wise.
"Rise" is listenable, but "Catherine' is just simple porn music at its baddest.
They even sound demo-ish and not even properly produced.
I'm a VH completist but I passed on "Sacred sin" when it came out...
    glad I did.

I can listen to them both and kinda enjoy them. But to watch the videos is heart breaking.
With EVH having that I don't give a fuck attitude about life back then its just hard to watch.

Its a weird one. Although its great to see the footage inside the 5150 studio, it is hard to watch and not that great to listen too... I've only seen then a couple of times.

    Not really.

Let's be honest here, if Eddie's name and legacy wasn't attached to these pieces of music no one would give a shit. They're messy, screechy, rambling, and generally poorly produced.

When I listen to Eddie play in the context of VH, everything is good and often times transcendent. When I listen to these tracks my ear searches for the parts that don't suck.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

As a rule, I don't care for Eddie's instrumentals. I think he just writes better for vocals.
Bachaletherium (whatever, you know what I mean), the Twister stuff, and the two porn tracks...they don't work for me. To be honest, I don't really care for any of the Wild Life or the made for TV movie he did for Val. ...or Stompin 8H.

Having said all of that, I am in awe of his music-writing ability. I just favor the stuff with lyrics. Blood and Fire just destroys Ripley in a head-to-head match up.

Now, do I have all this instrumental music on my I-POD? I do.

    That's not Eddie.

At least that is what I tell myself anytime I see anything with Ed from roughly 1999 through 2006.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I really like the music for 'Catherine' a lot . It was a different side of Eddie's creative mode . A new flavor or color , if you will . I'm not going to go into the details and/or speculation of his health or mental state at the time . The video of him in the 5150 studio is cool and yet bittersweet at the same time . I still watch it occasionally ...

'Rise' didn't do anything for me . Cool that he made those two tracks after so much silence though . The video was cool just to see him playing a Frankie replica .

There's nothing wrong with it IMO . Ed got a real good tone/groove/attitude going on that one .

Another poster remarked about not liking Ed's instrumentals - including the Wild Life ditties and Stompin' 8H ???

Well, it's not that I dislike the instrumentals...I just prefer lyrics and singing over the guitar masterpieces.
