Default Buy the Trans Am from Smokey n The Bandit

If I had an extra couple hundred grand laying around I would by this thing in a flash:

"Smokey and the Bandit" endures as one of the great popcorn flicks thanks in large part to the charisma of Burt Reynolds behind the wheel of a black Pontiac Trans Am. In real life, Reynolds kept the Bandit spirit alive by driving this 1978 Trans Am, complete with "BANDT22" license plates, embroidered headrests and CB radio, albeit about 30 years after "Bandit" came out. Mecum Auctions will sell the car this January

Sound like Burt Reynolds is falling on hard times and is selling a lot of memorabilia to raise cash. He is also selling the red Bandit jacket from Smokey adn the Bandit 2, a golden globe and some other items.

Burt Reynolds is auctioning off all kinds of personal things...even his Golden Globe award and high school football trophies

depending on who is talking, it's either because he's broke ( he has never been good with money apparently and an expensive divorce didn't help)

and add a recent foreclosure on his ranch in Florida that just wouldn't sell once the Florida real estate bust set in

he says it's because he has a huge collection of all kinds of things that he can no longer store, or even enjoy....and I believe that is partially true

there's cool stuff..movie memorabilia and all kinds of sports memorabilia given to him along with his old rolodex! Lots of boots and hats and belt buckles...lots of those western bronze statues andsome incredibly cheesy art work...i almost expect to come across one of those paintings of the kids with the huge eyes or a Hamilton mint collectors plate
lots and lots and lots of guns
and weird stuff...his old AMEX card and a personalized Burt Reynolds parking only sign and an autographed photo of Dom Deluise!

beautifully done catalog tho...you would think it was Elizabeth Taylors jewel auction!

If you've seen pictures or footage of him lately, it doesn't make much sense for him to have most of that stuff anymore as most of it is unusable to him. Why shouldn't he cash in while he is still alive and tie up all his loose ends and go out financially solvent, sounds like a smart move to me.

My favorite movie as a kid. I've had the personalized plate BAN 01 for 25 years. BAN ONE and BAN 1 were gone years before I could even drive. Also worked that they are my initials too.

if you look at just the statues and art work alone that stuff could be turned into cold hard cash that would help him out and eliminate the storage and insurance costs. there's one 15 foot tall statue alone that the presale estimate is something like 250K

and the bandit car should make him some nice money........... there will be car museums and movie museums bidding that up for sure

I'd buy that car in a heart beat. In the category of 'if I won a million dollars' that'd be it...handles like shit, fuel economy that's measured in gallons to the mile and poor reliability and I don't give a shit. I'd still buy it.

After looking at most of the catalogue for the auction he must really be hurting. Some of the momentos are something I'd never sell. Damn shame. But I hope he is ok. I'd hate to have to sell the bandit jacket and all that stuff.

today it comes out that Loni Anderson is also having an auction......story goes that the whole auction thing came out of a conversation she had a dinner with Burt and their son and they began to talk about all the memorabilia etc and what to do with it.."what are you going to do open a museum to yourself" and it sounds like the son signed off so they got the idea to have the stuff go to Juliens...who does a lot of these auctions

Loni's stuff is going as part of the Icons and Idols collections with some Princess Di dresses and with stuff by Pawn Stars, Elizabeth Taylor, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Loni Anderson, Stella Stevens, Richard Crenna, Bruce Lee, Greta Garbo, and Lucille Ball

RICHARD CRENNA OH BOY! and STELLA STEVENS....time to cash in the IRA and invest in that!

looks like Burt has enough tchotchkes to merit his own damn event in Las Vegas whoo pee

anyway Burt says he ain't broke......

I'm speechless. As bad a song as I've ever heard. Wow.

Anyways, I doubt Burt is broke. Makes sense at his age that he'd want to dump a lot of that stuff. That movie is easily one of my favorites all time.

That catalog is huge! Some pretty cool stuff buried between clunkers. The photos and correspondence I looked at starting at about page 200 were neat. Cary Grant, Sinatra, Jerry Reed, of course, and on and on. Although the one of Charles Nelson Reilly and him was kinda odd -- did Burt ever do Match Game? And who knew that Dinah Shore, Burt Reynolds and Jimmy Cagney all liked to draw/paint. I would actually consider going for that watercolor that Cagney did for him.

And that car, if it's in that good of condition, belongs in the Smithsonian.
