Default Fractal Audio Systems FX8 pedalboard ...

I just bought the latest Guitar World gear review guide for 2015 . I noticed this new multi f/x pedal on page 22 .
Does anyone have any more info about it ? I'm trying to determine if it's similar to the higher end rack mount units - various authentic amp/cabinet simulators , etc.

Or is this simply for 'traditional' effects ? The ad and website info seems a bit vague in that regard , although the picture in the GW mag seems to have part of the algorithm labeled "drive"? Is it a stompbox type distortion/gain or an amp model ? I've been in the market for another pedal based system and have typically been drawn to Boss/Roland COSM units .

If this new Fractal unit is essentially a 'rack on the floor' then I'm VERY interested ...

Fractal units are very expensive and I've never played through them, but I am friendly with Austin guitar legend David Grissom who says they are great!

It is my understanding that the pedal board is effects only, and does not include pre-amp or amp-modeling functions. The Axe FX units sound amazing, so I'm sure this will be on par, effects wise. I'm interested mainly because I love my 5150 head and have no need for amp modeling, but love Fractal's effects and the ability to really dig in and fine-tune it all. But nearly $1,400? I'm not sure my ear is that good. lol

I've heard great things about http://line6.com/podhd/]Line 6 POD HD X SERIES Overview, though. Even compared to the rack-mounted Axe FX and Axe FX II, and they are half the price.

Those boards do include amp-modeling, too.

I bought one 10 months ago to replace my pod 2.0...

They're not bad... not as good as Fractal, but, FOR THE PRICE... they are a powerful piece of gear especially to song write with...

    Nobody would regret buying one

Thanks very much for the replies and other gear suggestions , guys !
I've never tried any Line 6 gear although I like what I've heard others do with their stuff . I'm still partial to the Boss/Roland COSM units , and have no trouble navigating them .

The new Fractal pedalboard seemed interesting to me for a brief minute ... But yeah , too expensive and probably overly complicated . Too much pedal for this boy's ability and patience . LOL
