Default Van Halen Retired or just semi Retired.

I think they are mostly DONE.

I am expecting a DVD release (probably an old show and a new show, only DLR stuff).
Then a SHORT tour in 2015 with maybe 12-14 dates.

I think that is the most we will get out of them anymore.
    Sad...

I think Sammy is slowing way down too.
No more big tours...just a couple dates a year and some easy projects..(at least he is releasing stuff for the hardcore fans)
Lets just throw a pound of weed in the fire place, f@#% it!

It's hard to define what is retired or semi-retired for a musician. Just because they aren't in the public eye doesn't mean they aren't honing their craft.

I'm fine with getting ADKOT and the tour and that being it.....

But, it was a great album and tour that I of course would like to hear more from them.

Somewhere between semi-retired and DONE. We'll get something from them in 2015 it looks like, maybe some stuff here and there after that, maybe not. Maybe a short tour, some special shows etc. But for the most part I get the feeling they are done. ADKOT was great and I would go out of my mind if we got another new album, but I'm not expecting one. I can't really blame Sam for slowing way down either. The way he sings and as good as he sings, I don't think at his age he can do it all the time. He's even said he can no longer do a full tour and I can understand why. Hopefully these guys continue to do some special things here and there and they don't totally disappear.

I agree, I think they are in between semi retired and done, which is understandable considering their age. However, with Eddies guitar line expanding, I would be shocked if something wasn't on the horizon.

Eddie makes a ton of cash off of stuff that isn't albums and touring. He lost his passion for being a rock star long ago, if it wasn't for playing with WG, we wouldn't have even gotten ADKOT

If Sam says that he is semi-retired and still puts out some new stuff almost annually and does at least some live dates each year, how do you call VH compared to that...?

But I do think that Eddie needs to remain semi-active, if he wants his guitar and gear product lines to continue. I am not a guitar player so I have no idea if the gear is that good quality-wise that the EVH brand could continue, or if it is mainly fueled by the man himself and his musicianship?

I play guitar and I own a bunch of his stuff, amps, guitars and pedals. The EVH line is actually really good. The amps are excellent and so are his guitars. It would help sales tremendously if he is still somewhat active, so for him to just stop being creative ultimately would hurt his EVH line if he wants it to continue long term, as in after he's gone. I imagine his company actually takes up a lot of his time since he seems to be very involved in the product development. This might be one of the reasons that he's not as productive with VH any more. Plus I think the fact that there is no money to be made from recording new music, and the been-there-done-that syndrome...and then having to deal with Dave on a regular basis. I'm just speculating, who really knows, but VH as a band appears to be just an occasional thing now.

People need to realize that the days of putting out a record every year are over. Especially when artists are at this age. My personal guess is that Ed wants to be a dad and husband more than anything right now and that so long as he has the cash to make ends meet then the rate of records will be far less frequent. It doesn't mean he's lazy, and it doesn't mean he's retired. It's just the new normal.

He's obviously determined that the market can handle VH making records less frequently.

The age thing is ridiculous. Eddie has said he's healthy so unless he has yet more serious medicals issues then age should not have anything to do with it yet. He's 59 and he's done extremely little for 15 years since he was 44. There are so many people much older than Eddie and far richer that are still going strong. If he doesn't want to that's fine, but it's due to choice, not limitation.

I think they've already been semi-retired for 15 years. Now it's just a matter of whether they're done permanently. Eddie hasn't had much desire for a long time. He simply doesn't have much interest. Which is his right, of course. It's just a loss for rock music.

It's been once in almost 17 years. If that pace is too brutal when your studio is at your house and your whole band is family then I don't know what to say.

I'll bet the brothers don't consider themselves to be retired, semi-retired or even active. I don't think they put a label on it. They've gotten to a point in their lives when the drama seems to be done. business is different, family life is good, health issues resolved, they have outside interests and the time and ability to pursue them. There is just nothing to really drive them to do what they did for 3 decades. Record companies are not beating at their door telling them that they have to deliver a contracted album. They now have the luxury of being able to do what they want to do when the muse hits them.

Dave is a whole nuther story tho. He's not retired.

At some point you gotta wonder what the hell they do all day.

You'd think after all those wasted years they'd want to make up for lost time.
