Default When It Comes Down To It - Are You Liberal Or Conservative?

While you can certainly be both ala socially liberal, but fiscally conservative - when it comes down to how you generally vote, are you liberal or conservative?

How are you voting in the midterms and how would you most likely vote in 2016?

I tend to vote more for the Republican party even though they are typically as bad as Democrats. However when its said and done, they typically hate government just a tad less than Democrats.

does it matter? 2 sides of the same coin

I vote for who I think will do the best job (or the least damage in most cases ) the letter next to their name means little to me.

In the UK, things aren't quite as straightfoward as this dichotomy suggests - because we have three main parties, with two more fast approaching that status.

In actual fact, the "Liberal (Democrat)" party over here is the middle-of-the-road, centrist party (we have the Conservative Party on the right, and Labour to the left). Normally, I vote for the Libs. However, come next year's general election I won't be - because when they formed a coalition government with the Conservatives in 2010 they basically reneged on their entire manifesto - so they've f*cked that up, good and proper.

I refuse to vote Tory (Conservative) because they're a bunch of stuck-up, arrogant, snobs who have never worked a proper day in their lives, moving straight into politics from Oxford or Cambridge; I won't vote Labour because they run the devolved national assembly here in Wales and have proved themselves incapable of running even the proverbial piss-up in a brewery, and I won't vote UKIP (the UK Independence Party) because the increasingly slime-imbued leader is sneakily keeping the nastier elements of his party's manifesto firmly buried beneath one populist policy. That leaves me with the Green Party: they are opposed to fracking and Page 3 - and that's good enough for me!

No one is liberal on every subject, and no one is conservative on every subject, unless they are a fucking lemming that can't think for themselves.

I'm an American, and I despise the party and "liberal" "conservative" and "progressive" labels that we put on everyone.

I've voted for candidates from the Democratic, Republican, Libertarian and Green parties. Couldn't care less about the initial, I am concerned with the man or woman running.

Problem is that the traditional political spectrum really isn't a flat line with liberal on the left and conservative on the right. As someone who is a classical liberal, which is today's Libertarian Party, mostly, I don't fall on that traditional line. I will bet to the right of the conservatives on some issues and to the left of liberals on others.

I suppose that's okay, because in CA we have virtually eliminated third parties with our "top two" primaries. So every choice for me today is a Republican or Democrat. In some areas of California, the choice is between two Republicans or two Democrats. But you won't be able to vote for any third party in an actual election again with this "top two" thing.

CA has a supermajority in its government. Brown and the Democrats have NOT balanced the budget, they've just used budget trickery--cash-based budgeting--to create the illusion of a balanced budget. In other words, it's only an expense if cash changes hands, and any revenue, including borrowed revenue, is considered basic revenue. So, if you're supposed to put $3 billion in a pension fund and don't, you don't have to count it in your budget! It's amazing how you can balance a budget when you just ignore things you owe.

Anyway, in CA, your hands are tied. It's Dem or Rep. And since the government is all Dem, I voted all Rep in the hopes of ending the supermajority and getting some dissenting voices in Sacramento.

I voted against the "top two" system, but the people of CA instead voted to silence third parties...or the kind of people whose views fall more in line with mine. So pretty much, across the board, I've been silenced.

I vote for who will be fiscally conservative, uphold the Constitution, with the least BS. So you can see I have been looking for candidates for decades.

If we're looking at a spectrum, definitely more Conservative. Always have been, too.

    I CAN'T vote for a candidate that is pro-abortion.

Having said that, the older I get, the more "liberal" I am on social issues.

I got too much to worry about in my own life than to take militant stances on the lives of others.

If push comes to shove, I vote Republican only because they're the lesser of two evils I suppose.

    I hate politics.

It used to be more nobler....

It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.
