I knew Steve was asked for the first David Lee Roth album. I think it would have been an absolute killer combination. I didn't know that it was Steve Stevens gear that was used. Cool story!

I know nothing about Steve Stevens, and I have no basis to disbelieve anything in the article. I'm sure he was a master at his craft. But sticking in there that he helped kickstart Vince Neil's solo career seems like a nonstarter to me. Maybe I read it wrong, but the article's writer did Stevens a dis-service by including that little bit.

Cool story! I also didn't know about the gear and the struggle for Vai's tone.
Some harshness towards Carvin, that cracked me up. Lol

I always dug Stevens and loved those 80's Idol records.
Cool stuff and IMO Steve Stevens is one of the good ones. He's a great player who writes cool stuff that stands out IMO. Lots of tasty things about his playing and music. Great showman too.

I followed the links in this article (thanks for posting it) to the podcast where these stories came from. The entire interview (over an hour!) is really interesting if you're into Steve Stevens. Great podcast!

Steve's playing on that first vince neil solo disk is very good, it's vince's childish approach to his lyrics that ruin alot of the songs, it's still not a bad disk, it's not great but it's "good" and steve plays really, really well on it.

There is great writing and playing from a guitarist point of view on the first Vince Neil album, Exposed.

There is some usual 80's hair metal stupidity, but it is actually kept down to a tolerable level, at least for me.

I personally think that a Roth/Stevens combo at that time would have been killer. He's more of a rocker than Vai in my humble opinion.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

There is some excellent guitar playing by Steve Stevens on Billy Idol's new album "Kings and Queens of the Underground."

I believe they recorded EEAS here in Berkeley at Fantasy studios.

I did a google hangout with Satriani a couple years ago and he said he lent an electric sitar to Vai for that album.
