    Default "Sam's Work Ethic Sucked"

I happened to click on this interview the other day:

Most of you know this already, but for the record, here's Sammy's output from 1996-2014

    Studio Albums:
    Marching to Mars
    Red Voodoo
    10-13
    Not for Sale
    Livin' it Up
    Cosmic Universal Fashion
    Chickenfoot
    Chickenfoot III
    Sammy and Friends

    Live Albums:
    Live Hallelujah
    Get Your Buzz On (DVD)

    Compilations:
    The Essential Red Collection

    Acoustic Release:
    Light Roast

Not to mention appearances with other artists, Christmas tunes, other greatest hits packages with limited release, three new tunes with Van Halen, a NY Times Best Seller, and constant touring, including performing at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Mike, when nobody else from Van Halen showed.

Wow, Ed and Alex, you guys are really full of shit...either that or your words really inspired Sammy (thanks for that). I'd be hoping for the latter, if I were you.

Ed and Al were grasping at straws at that time. that's the only explanation. They allowed themselves to be put in a position where they were gonna have a confrontation with Sam and that drove the band apart-I'm talking about the stupid twister soundtrack and the greatest hits they had planned at that time.

what they should have done was take 1996 off and get themselves fixed up just like Sammy said and then hit it again in 97 or even 98 if they still needed time.

if they wanted to do a soundtrack then they could have just given them tracks that were already done from the FUCK or Balance sessions, hell...I can name at least 6 tunes off the tip of my head they could have given for soundtracks.

    stupid, stupid, stupid.

In a long list of stupid things that Ed ever uttered, that was the stupidest.

Nobody in the industry believed or believes that about Sammy.

Having said that, It's BECAUSE of Sam's great work ethic that I really believe he would have left on his own, sooner or later.

The accepted story is that Sam's wife was having the baby and he wanted to be with her. The Bros wanted to work. That cracks me up, as VH and the word work don't compute.

I'm sure that was Sam's feeling, but I think he was bored with that band by then. It just wasn't fun anymore and I think he subconsciously said fuck it.

At that time, EVH was impossible to be around in a professional work environment and I believe NO singer could have survived it. Maybe another album or two and separate ways imo.

I have always felt that if the band had just taken a little hiatus in 1985 they wouldn't have broken up, the same in 1996.

Most long term bands do it. Aerosmith, the Stones, Bon Jovi, and they would probably all point out that it was needed to get some space and to generate some hunger in working together again, and some perspective to realize how good they have it. But no, VH takes the "fuck you" oh really "fuck you too!" approach to band management.

I thought the Bon Jovi behind the music really illustrated it well after the New Jersey tour, that if they hadn't of taken a few years off there, they would have ceased to exist as a band.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I don't get you guys. Nothing better to do than finding new ways of ripping into Ed about the same old shit he said or did 10-20 years ago.

Maybe if Ed hadn't given us some much ammunition, then we wouldn't be firing it so often.

DD, I respect your opinion. It gives me no pleasure to write the original post. Here we are in the classic "fuck me" posture, waiting for Van Halen to just tell us they are done or plan to release something else. It's not difficult to just use twitter or facebook or their own website to say, we are not releasing anything anytime soon, maybe ever? But most historians will tell you to learn from the mistakes of the past...well, Eddie and Alex are full of crap. It's proven here in this brief clip.

Having said all of that, it was more fun to just list all of Sam's releases since he left Van Halen, because it's so damn impressive. I'm sure I even missed some stuff.

And thatís just the music. When you add in his business ventures, Cabo Wabo Cantina, the Sammy Beach Bars, the Tequila, the Rum and it becomes really impressive.

Hes had some amazing years, but sadly Sammy is slowing down creative-wise. I guess I should be happy though, cause they've been classic years. This new "The Circle" live album sounds good, and Mikeys on it, so that's another plus, and we'll get some covers ofcourse, some VH, some CF I guess aswell.

I was hoping a CF album was on the horizon, but by his recent interview, new material could be a tall order.
What is understood need not be discussed

Yup. I bet you are correct. After the Greatest Hits, they could have easily waited until 2000 to release something. We would have been impatient, but it would have been better than what we eventually endured.

It's up there, but I think "you better be wearing a cup" is still tops. I actually think both quotes are from the same MTV interview if memory serves. He was really on a roll back then.

I just have a general disdain for miniature rockers trying to act like bad asses. He's five foot eight, and at that time, probably what, 150 lbs? I've taken shits that probably fight harder than Ed.
