I know Brett was hoping Maddon was Dodger bound. He will get a few more wins for the Cubs .Great Manager.
As an Oriole fan I'm glad he's in the NL now.

The Cubs supposedly getting Maddon is awesome, but I do feel bad for Rick Renteria. He did a pretty good job last year and he is just kicked to the curb. At least he will still get paid for the next 2 years.

hey, that game ended by 1130P, I started this about 830A - that's 9 hours!

Just be glad I didn't start it last night!

But you can celebrate in here if you like or there. You have two years before you have to worry about it again!

But to your point about next year.

    Giants have some big decisions.

First and foremost is Pablo Sandoval. Do they give him 5+ years and $100mil? If they can't reach a deal do they do a $15mil qualifying offer to at least get a draft pick? Rumors say the Red Sox and a few other teams may go after Pablo. I hope the Giants sign him. Not much else on the 3rdbase market via Free Agency.

    Peavy is probably gone.

Sergio Romo may be gone as well. He may want to get the closer role back somewhere else.

Mike Morse may sign with an American League team to DH/1B. The Giants really only need him for interleague and World Series play...haha...

Most likely the Giants go looking for a LF and another Starting Pitcher through Free Agency.

    Rotation right now looks like
    Bumgarner
    Cain
    Hudson
    ?
    Petit

Giant starters outside of Bumgarner were fairly mediocre. None of those guys are very exciting outside of him.

Pretty lame. Can't you give us some time to bask in the glow of the Giants' victory before reminding us about him?

In the World Series, they were not good at all. But in the end, all you need to do is win 4 games before the other team does.

In other words, the Giants would not have won the WS without Bumgarner. He is a once in a lifetime pitcher, like Koufax....too bad none of us will ever be able to say we saw Koufax actually pitch in person. I do not like the Giants at all, but I do give props to Bum.

Dude Kershaw is every bit as good as Bumgarner. One good playoff run will eventually stop people from discounting that. Pure stuff he can't touch Kershaw. But he does it when it counts most, Kersh doesn't. Bumgarner is not Koufax but he's pretty fucking good. And no way the Giants are even in the World Series period without him. He carried them the whole postseason. It's amazing they won with that offense and bad starters. Timely hits and one pitcher who was unreal.

The Dodgers did dominate the Giants down the stretch though. All for fucking nothing of course but I'm pretty sure they were glad to avoid them in playoffs.

I saw him get beat in 66 WS live on TV. I was 8 and they brought us all into the gym at Wellwood Elementry School in Baltimore to watch the Orioles win at all in 4 straight.
Btw I just checked that game on wiki and the TV announcers were Curt Gowdy and you guessed it Vin Scully!

I agree with pretty much everything you said here.

In the regular season Kershaw is a better pitcher, he is fantastic actually, Cy Young, the BEST. I would guess that he will eventually have a great run in the post season. He is to good not to overcome SSS eventually. HELL, even noted playoff choker Peyton Manning won 1 Super Bowl. So far, Kershaw postseason record is 1-5 with a 5.12 era.

In the playoffs it is not even close so far. Bumgarner now has 3 rings. He also has WINS in 3 different World series(2010,2012,2014). WS record = 4-0 with 1 save and a 0.25 ERA. Bumgarner is also only 25 years old, he is just getting better every year.

Brett is also exactly right about Bumgarner carrying the other Giants starting pitchers. Peavy, Hudson and Vogelsong were not good. At times they flat out SUCKED. The Giants are lucky as fuck that Madbum saved their asses. Giants don't win without him.

One thing you did forget about was the Giants DEFENSE. For most of the post season they were excellent in the field. That makes a HUGE difference, it also helped them win. DEFENSE counts.
