    Default "Van Halen rising" book??

I'm really interested in this new book out next year, but just wondering how much detail we are gonna get of the old Passadena and club days. I thought Jeff Hausman covered it rather well in "The club days" issue of "The Inside". Those guys that contributed interviews in that issue remembered the ins 'n' outs. Did Jeff Contribute anything to this book? Did the same guys that helped with the "Inside" issue have something to do with this book? I just hope we get new info and photos and not stuff we already know.....

I think can answer this. First, thanks for the kudos about The Inside issue #8. If I do say so myself, that issue is worth it's weight in gold as far as never-known information from the band's club days. That was lots of pages & small type, so that issue could have almost been a small book by itself. I did all those interview myself, and I'm very proud of that issue.

The Van Halen Rising book (which I'm not involved in) should be much more in depth. I'm sure they'll be lots of stuff we've never heard. So, don't even sweat wondering if it will be worth buying or not—it will! (Someone in another thread asked the author, Greg Renoff, if he knew how much it was going to cost. (I could only think to myself, "does it matter??")

I had asked the author about details/price/format of the new book . No , Jeff , it "doesn't really matter" ... I was just curious as to the final product .

Not really any different than us EVH fans trying to get info (and est. costs! ) of his upcoming gear releases .

The book sounds like it will be cool .
"There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen
"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - a very wise fan.
"Embrace the past. Live in the moment but keep your eyes on the future, and keep on moving forward..." - Richie Sambora

    Default Van Halen Rising Update

    Hey everyone,

Just a quick update about Van Halen Rising.

On Friday night I sent off a 115,000 word manuscript to the good people at ECW Press to begin the editing and book production process; the book should be out in the fall of 2015. (If you don't know ECW's stuff, they've done all of Neil Peart's books).

As many of you know, I started working on Van Halen Rising back in 2009, so this is a huge milestone as I look forward to getting the book in everyone's hands. THANK YOU so much for your support. I've appreciated the kind words and enthusiasm here at the links.

Just some of the topics/episodes the book covers: the origins of Genesis/Mammoth, DLR's Red Ball Jet's adventures, the backyard party days, Wet-T-Shirt contests, the Gene Simmons episode, how the Warner Bros. signing really went down, the making of VH1, and the 1978 tour.

I can make one promise: there will be page after page of stories that Van Halen fans *haven't* read about before. I dug deep to get the untold story down on paper; Among the 230+ interviews I did, I talked to everyone from Mike Anthony and Ted T. to DLR's and EVH's high school buddies.

If you know any VH fans who'd like to read the untold story of the band's beginnings and rise to fame, please do send them my way on FB or Twitter.

    Best and thanks again -

This band is weird in that respect. Getting them to release info/footage/recordings about the band is like pulling teeth.

I'm not sure the CIA is better at keeping information secret.

Really looking forward to this book, thought about doing a project like this myself with a friend who lives in Riverside. Glad to see someone else was already on the case! Took this pic of the Van Halen house in Pasadena in 2007 on my way home after seeing the Police at Dodger stadium. Got chills just thinking about how many songs were written there.

Yeah, if it's Ed I get it, but Dave clamming up and not wanting to talk about how he got to where he is?

    Strange...

I wonder if the current resident has any clue as to what went on there back in the 70s...

Not sure who owns it now, but the VH brothers should buy it and keep in the family forever. So much history in that home. There is an alley in the back, I drove down and saw that the little garage in back was still there! Hope it hasn't changed much since then.
