    Default Dave "spoken word" tour?

First off, glad the links are still here..

Just wondered...has anyone ever considered how a spoken word tour from Dave might work? (In a similar way to Henry Rollins)

He must have some great stories, and if the audience could ask questions it would be fantastic. Assuming discussions around the brothers were off limits there still is:-
    his solo career
    travels
    tattoo obsession
    sheep dogs?

Could be a live version of the Roth show, and would keep him busy between VH tours. Could also work when the band ends? (Hopefully, no time soon)

Anyone else in favour of this?

Dave can be a great storyteller, but even his Roth Show shows his limitations. He's very ADD in how he approaches topics, so it would have to be extremely structured for that to work.

I've turned off the Roth Show mid episode many times because I just can't keep my interest up in all the tangential stories that Dave thinks are interesting.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

If it were more like his book, with stories about Van Halen, life on the road, etc... I would totally dig it. But with Dave, most of the tangents he gets on these days on his podcast and whatnot, I could care less about. I wish he would take each podcast and devote it to the making of a certain VH record or tour or video.

agreed. you have to rewire your brain into 'dave-speak', and I find that very challenging at the best of times!

The idea does not excite me. I would watch it if it were filmed, but I would not pay to attend. I would prefer an "Inside the Actors Studio" format: A 60-minute live interview with a professional interviewer knowledgeable about the music industry and Van Halen but not a fanboy, and then 30-60 minutes of questions from the audience.

Dave's been doing spoken word tours for the last 30 years or so. Sorry I couldn't resist. It's worth noting Dave is my favorite VH singer.

I'd rather watch Ed play the bongos all night.

Yep, Dave can't hold a thought for too long. Unless it had a moderator to keep him on topic, I think a spoken word show would be a hot mess. Probably funny, though.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

I would love to chat with Dave face to face. His mind has always fascinated me. Not sure if I could handle a two hour chat with a room full of people, though.

Seriously, who's going to handle 2 hours of the kind of stuff Dave did during his Ice Cream Man "dog story" from the last tour. That was fucking brutal. I love the guy fronting Van Halen, but he needs to be on some kind of 30 second timer like a speed chess tournament or it quickly becomes paint drying excitement time when Dave starts rambling off on planet Zepto.

I want bumper sticker quips, not War and Peace from Dave.
