Default It's About Time: What was your reaction?

When I first got into Van Halen and had gone through most of their discography, it was about four years after BOBW. So I wanted to hear their most recent songs and bought the three news tracks off of iTunes. I have to say, I was disappointed in them, but only mildly.

However, I now believe IAT is the worst track VH ever recorded, awful riff, awful tuning, awful lyrics. My question is for those who were around when it was first released: did you like it at the time, or were you disappointed? Has your opinion changed?

I agree, it was a shit sandwhich from the first note. It was an example of Van Halen trying to hard and in the end they ended up sucking because of it. The lyrics are lame as shit and the music is just disjointed and doesn't fit.

I actually really like IAT...def the best of the 3 new songs on BOBW. I love the verse part....not so much the lyrics themselves but how they intertwine with the guitar and drums.

I vividly remember the night it leaked here at VHLinks. It was either Jan or JMJ that sent me the leak over AIM. I was ecstatic, I'd been a VH fan for only about a year and a half and already thought the band was done for. When I first heard that song I thought it was awesome, and that Eddie was back!

...unfortunately, those sentiments haven't held up. Time wasn't too kind to It's About Time.

I liked it. Is it MWM? Humans Being? No. However, not every song can be THAT good. ADKOT doesn't have tunes as good as MWM or Humans Being either - but I still love the CD to death.

Still kinda dig the tune... It's a mess, but parts of it are fun.

There are 3 riffs in that song:
    Intro
    Verse
    Chorus

The guitar parts in the verse and chorus and actually quite tasty... Love them!!!

    The intro is unbearable

Agreed, the riffage in the chorus is actually quite good.

Disappointment. It's not Van Halen. That opening riff is everything I don't want VH to be.

Moments of the song sound like VH but it's still a turd. Hasn't seen the light of day on any of my playlists ever.

VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

Had all the kids with me, we were all excited. The kids accuse me of liking anything VH, regardless of what the general thought it

IAT was good at first and then I lost interested

UFB, liked the beginning, hated the lyrics badly. VH turned into Nickelback

LTS, dog central - Did not flow well IMO

The song was mediocre from the start, but it was probably the most exciting time ever to be a Linker. This site was BURSTING, and it was gloriously fun.

My initial reaction was that the song was ok. It was refreshing to hear some new Van Halen! The song never seemed to flow, although I guess the same could be said about the other 2 as well.

I haven't had a desire to listen to it in a long time if that says anything. My favorite of those 3 songs was by far Learning to See.

It actually got worse when they followed with a tour.
