It would be better if they shot the pics from the same spot.

Good time to inspect bridge pilings and make repairs also if you fish you take pictures and find good structure for when it fills back up.

I can just watch my lawn, no need to watch these pics. It's pretty obvious. And sad.

Not far fetched. There are 3 million in California.Estimates vary, but each person uses about 80-100 gallons of water per day.Even at minimum count that is 240 million gallons per day everyday of the year for how many years? I would say right now California would kill to have just 1/2 that water now.

It seems that we need a strong El Nino so the west can get some rain.

I know the usual suspect is blamed for this but maybe. Just maybe there are too many people living in an area that is not capable of sustaining it with water? Talking about the entire area and not just California. I mean here in Ohio we go through dry periods however there is not the demand for water as there was 10 years ago. Our water company actually said that was the reason for an increase of our rates. The Great Lakes are all above their normal levels.

The area just can't recover from a drought like it could in say 1960.

Not saying it isn't tragic and weather isn't to blame but you are wringing water from a sponge

earlier this summer they were calling for an El Nino to develop....then it fizzled out. Now they say we have "weak El Nino" conditions.

but yeah in 1997 we had a strong el nino and we were working outide in t shirts and shorts in february because temps were around 70 degrees instead of the normal low 30's

that was also the year that Northern California got something like twice the normal rainfall from the 'Pineapple Express"

maybe a "weak el nino" is the better option

I was reading a article this summer about Calfornia dealing with the drought and one problem is that the real efficiencies of reducing use comes thru reducing urban or household use (even more than agricultural conservation) and that with the introduction of low flush toilets, water saving showerheads, lowering lawn irrigation and use of xero-scaping, the biggest efficiencies in per capita reduction of water use are already behind us.

de salinization plants are inefficient using their current technology, el nino years are unpredictable and do not resolve the real problem which is the draw down of underground water sources

I'm beginning to believe people who are saying that the real problem is over population of a geographic area that has large areas that are frankly, not conducive to supporting people in the way they like to live, with swimming pools and lush landscaping etc.
