    Default Red Voodoo Revisited

I listened to the entire Red Voodoo CD last night. I hadn't listened to it in years, honestly. Coming off of Marching to Mars, Sammy was still inspired, I think, though he may have lost a little steam. Red Voodoo had some forgettable tunes, for sure, but man there are some great Sammy solo songs from that album.

    Mas Tequila--a fun radio/concert song
Lay Your Hand on Me--Sammy Hagar meets Def Leppard
High and Dry--a bad ass rocker
Don't Fight It, Feel It--up tempo blues
    Right on Right--grungy rock
The Returning of the Wish--a masterpiece of a song

This could have been a great follow-up to MTM with just three more songs of the caliber of those above.

I dug the 'Red Voodoo' album. Played it a ton when it was released.

Redfoot. All the songs you listed are my favorites, and yes, "Returning of the wish" is one of his best ever.
The only real filler is "Shag", and "The love" is to repetitive in the chorus, plus I hate the lyric "Every face I see reminds me of you"...Just a little rant (lol)
but all in all, its a fun album.
"Right on right" just flat out rocks.
He played that in Melbourne on his '98 aussie tour.

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

Agree with you guys. Underrated album and released about the time cd sales were near done..

Had he sold Cabo yet? Assuming he did and flush with cash, was ready to party..

Hate to say it, but he butchered "The Love". One of the best tunes from HSAS, "Ever Since You Came" is where The Love started from. I will always wonder how that tune didn't make the album.

I remember being excited to hear it show up as TL on Red Voodoo. Just didn't happen..

    Right on Right a monster.

overall I think this album was kind of a letdown. I thought MTM was INCREDIBLE. I still listen to a few of the tracks but I don't get that warm, fuzzy feeling about the record.

mas tequila is a great, great party rock song.

I felt the same way about The Love when I first heard it but it's totally grown on me and now I listen to it all the time. It's probably my favorite tune on the record. I really can't explain it....I like what Sam did with the lyrics, I still prefer Ever Since you Came but I dig this song. I like the "chanting" at the end alot. I love the part where sam sings "feeling like I've known you, another place and time. transendental doorway opens up and hand and hand we shine".....maybe it's a little cheesy but I love it.

Right On Right is a great, great song. I love it.

Returning ofThe Wish could be in my top 20 Sam songs. I used to have this guitar mag that came out around the time RV was released and Sam said that The Wish was actually a reworked version of the unreleased VH song The Wish from the FUCK sessions....it gives me chills sometimes when I crank it.

ya know, I just threw this on and Don't fight it is a pretty cool little tune. the album ends pretty strong with:

    Don't Fight It
    the Love
    Right on Right
    Returning of the Wish

    nice.

No mention of the title track? I always had that #2 after Mas Tequila.

Haven't listened to this album in forever. When it first came out it got a lot of play.

I think Jesse Harms was good for Sam. I always wondered how much collaboration was going on there. I know Harms wrote Things Have Changed, which is good.

I know it's been talked about before, but has Jesse Harms every come out and said more about why he split? I know in 2004, he was pissed that Sammy decided to reunite with Van Halen, because he felt they had a good (enough) thing going with the Wabos.

I believe he has a music store in Novato,California. I think he was tired of going on the road too.

The opening to "Shag" was incredible during the sound check at the Myrtle Beach Show.

I can really do without Jesse Harms. His writing collaboration may have been decent but to me he always seemed like someone's dorky ass dad up there on stage behind the keyboards, he just didn't look cool. I just got that vibe. Plus live with him they relied heavily on the keyboards, always including them on songs that didn't even have keyboards in the first place.

Back on subject, I thought Red Voodoo was pretty cool at the time. But it was the start of that long Jimmy Buffet trip that I didn't care for. There's a few gems on there though ala Right On Right and Returning of the Wish.

Listened to this for the first time since that "era" a few months ago. Agree with a lot of this.

I've always found the title tracks to be the weakest parts of Sams' more recent albums.
