Default Do you think VH should be giving us more than just albums every now and then?

Apart from the albums VH have delivered over the years, we've only had 2 live dvds and a Best of Volume 1 dvd of clips...
For a band that's lasted since 74' I find it mind boggling that we haven't got more official recordings from the band...
I know we've been dying for a box set over the years which I think will never come....but heres hoping.
I'm talking about just putting out something for the fans between albums...like a live concert from 83' (US Festival with Oakland 81 as a bonus), A Classic album dvd of "1984" since its the 30th anniversary, a live dvd of the last tour, etc. theres so much they could dig up......
AC/DC put out something always between albums, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, the list goes on.....
I know its Eddies decision, but do you think its....
    1. Bitterness towards Sammy and Mike. so much that he just ignores the past with them and doesn't want no more official releasaes with their name on it. Kiss do it, and theres massive bitterness between Gene, Paul and Peter and Ace.
    2. Laziness and just cant be bothered. I respect Eddies now married, etc but theres a few hours in the day you can spend in 5150 digging up old tapes.
    3. The Youtube age. Has this a big factor in it??

Sure, I love my big bootleg collection and tv asppearances, etc. but I'd love to see a live dvd, even if Dave cant sing anymore. lol.

I don't think, personally, Eddies owes us. its just that theres so much they could do as far as making money. Maybe even a coffee table photo book would be cool....
What is understood need not be discussed

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

I think a dvd from the last tour could happen. I wish more than anything (like a lot of folks) that they would release some stuff from back in the day but in my opinion it will really be surprising if they do.

Seeing the news report last year in 5150 with the big wall of recorded tapes was pretty eye opening. Ed likes jamming and I've thought for a while that he would probably rather do that (on old or new material) with his son than recording a full album or spending all that time putting an old concert video together.

I'm pretty sure I read that it was wolfgang that chose the songs to rework etc for adkot? (could be wrong there) Not ragging on any of them. But I think they've always been this way and have always needed someone to push them to get things done. They just love jamming! Now that they don't need the money and are older it must be harder and harder to put something together that they're all happy with also.

It is rather ridiculous nothing has been released from the Dave era. Especially since he's back in the band. I can understand not releasing anything "Dave related" while Sam was in the band. I never expected any releases then. But now....

Honestly, while it's ideal to release CVH material now, going all these years without anything (even during the CVH years) I've came to the realization decades ago..... nothing is going to happen until the music is over.

Unfortunately, Ed just doesn't care about releasing old stuff. I don't think it's bitterness or laziness cuz he's never dun anything, period. He's just one of those guys that's all about the future... the next riff.

I know Ed doesn't owe us anything but I wish he would understand this from our perspective....the fans. Maybe when it's all over he might.

When you're talking DVD's/CD's of old shows, books, there's really not a lot of money in that at this stage of their career. This kinda of stuff needed to be dun when they were hot. Sure, they'd make some decent money off a release, but no single release in gonna bring them millions of dollars.

probably a combination of these things. also for some reason I can imagine there being a lot of legal red tape flying around

It is surprising that they haven't released more but maybe they don't think it's worth it to them to do so.

A DVD from the last Dave tour would be nice and easy money for VH. As I have said anything we get from now on out is a bonus. The years they really waisted was after Balance tour to 2004. They were still pretty young and could have really busted balls with Sammy or Dave.

Yes, I think they could release more...not sure why they don't actually.

    - DVD of the last tour
    - Memoirs
    - New music
    - Behind the scenes making off

There is zero reason other than this is 'Van Halen' that they don't release stuff. The fans would clamour for it. It doesn't need to be new music every two years; but some type of involvement with the fans is easy to do.

I'll take what I can get. I never would have believed when they put out ADKOT that they would also put out a lot of other stuff, ie downtown sessions, the vids with Dave, Alex and Eddie, Cafe Wha....

Not to mention just the decision to allow fans to video the shows. They knew what they were doing. A lot of great fan shot vids came out of that tour and they know it. I know for a fact that Alex gets a lot of them so the Van Halen camp knows they exist and knows of the quality of some of them.

That last line caught my eye. Has Alex mentioned this in an interview or something?
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

We can hope the little bit of extra stuff we got on ADKOT was just the beginning. Maybe Ed is slowly coming around.

I think they should be releasing stuff on their official website.

Little stupid stuff like Sam does.

Updates, acoustic stuff, videos (fan made or official), etc.

Most of all, why not put a new song up there and charge 2 bucks a download. If it works, put up another one a month later. You want to put your art out to the world? That's easier than ever these days.

I don't want concert videos, box-sets, anthologies, or interviews; I want music. Give me records or give me...records.
