    Default My son's Zep performance

My 11-year-old just went through a 2-week Zeppelin camp at School of Rock and had their performance tonight. The club was really dark so the video is dark and grainy, however, it improves drastically right when he takes the guitar solo.

    Here's the video:

You can jump to 5:45 or so to catch his take on the lead guitar solo. Even though he's only 11, I get the feeling that he has that nature to stay as accurate as possible to the recording but still plays it with feeling and excitement. Man, where he could go from here.

Cool. I love these school of rock type programs for kids. I directed a photo shoot for a feature story we did on a local one a few years ago with the owner and his two kids jamming some Sabbath and having a blast. Just a great idea to get kids involved in music and get instruments in their hands. I wish they had this type of thing when I was coming up.

Nowadays, just the mere fact these kids like Led Zeppelin is a god send in it's own right, let alone actually playing it.

That was great Kevin. You have every right to be proud. I could make a case that rendition was better than Zeppelin's at their last reunion.

Real cool video , Kevin !
It's beyond awesome to see a new generation playing and loving those kinds of songs . You've taught your boy well .

He's got the knack for sure . I wish the solo was a bit louder in the mix , but it's clear that your little guy nailed it and had a blast . Kudos to him on both counts !

I loved seeing and hearing him perform that timeless song on a Frankie replica !
Two classics that will never go out of style !!!

He did a good job on the solo! I learned that piece when I was 12 and as cheesy as it is, it sure has the basis for an awful lot of other songs in it. It really is one of those things that is a cliche, but it is a great cliche that can teach you a lot.

I agree it is very cool that he never lost the feel and he kept time well...excellent work for an 11 year old or a 41 year old!

I'm totally fucking serious dude! I'll give Plant credit for doing a yoman's job, he's a pro, but he can't sing that stuff anymore. Being it was all tuned down a step, some of it (including Stairway) didn't sound that good. There was no power an emotion like the old days (not that that should be expected). It was way to subdued. It was basically putting me to sleep.

Guitar playing , there's no comparison. This kid was way better than Page's O2version.

I honestly felt more energy with their rendition, and more of a reminder of the actual song than I did with Zeppelin's O2 version.

Wow Kevin he did a great job, pretty much note for note. Good for him!

Pretty sure Jimmy Page hasn't played it that clean in 40 years. Haha.

That was awesome. They sound as good or better than my little garage band, we've all been playing for 30 years.

    Guess I'll take up knitting...

    Thanks everyone -- much appreciated!

He really practiced his ass off, man -- and I can attest to that. I charted the whole thing out, we studied it half-speed and regular speed. He really did a lot of work to get it right. Cool thing is I told him, "Dude, you're only 11 and now you'll know the solo to Stairway for the rest of your life." To me, that's kind of the biggest trip of the whole thing.

He did "Dazed and Confused" too. I'll try to get that up -- he did really well on the wah part and the lead solo.

That's mad! For an 11 year old to pull that off so well is excellent.
It's really cool to see kids doing this sort of stuff- trust me, plenty of them are closed minded to classic rock.
I used to be 'sean112' but lost all my details!
