Default When would DLR have recorded his VH vocals?

    Question for the troops...

Was thinking about the timeline here...

Dave was in the studio here in Tokyo for a few months (as featured in his RothTV podcast.)

Do you think these were warm-up sessions for the VH vocal sessions?

    or

Do you think he was actually recording his vocals for the next VH album in Tokyo... and recently carried the tracks back with him to the US last month for mixing?

Which begs the question of the reason for EVH's vist to the mastering studio. Of course EVH's visit to the mastering studio could have been a preliminary meeting if they are just now mixing.

Just curious what you guys all thought.

    Cheers,

I had that same thought about him possibly recording vocals for the new album when I first saw that vid of him in the studio in Japan. But who knows what's going on?
Wolf tweeted two interesting things today; one said he forgot to sleep and the other showed his bass with pedals, etc in the background and said "my number one."
That certainly makes me think he could be recording in the studio.

I think Dave did the majority of writing in Japan. For inspiration I'm guessing.
I also think he probably did allot of the vocals there and was finishing up around the time that he released his version of "Happy".
They are probably (hopefully) mixing as evidenced by Ed's stopping by getting leaked. He doesn't "pop in" and visit anyone...

    I'm guessing 3-4 new songs..

    I Don't Know,

I think Dave came back to the U.S. because he knew Manny was sick and wanted to be with him !!!

Dave has certainly had plenty of time to write and record vocals. Let's just hope he was supplied with the music.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing... but he might have just dropped by Los Angeles to pick up his mojo.

I doubt they have non stop flights from Tokyo to NY.
Perhaps it was both album related and his sick uncle or coincidence that Manny passed away close to Dave's arrival back in America.
It would be interesting if the BAND goes to the funeral.

In the past we joked about weddings, birthdays etc causing album delays. Could Manny's death delay this one?

I agree I think the return is probably more due to VH biz... but wouldn't doubt Dave goes to the funeral. (Don't know if the rest of the band was that close however.)

Just one quick note: There are actually many regular non-stop flights from Tokyo to NY...
... just none to my home state, which annoys me to no end.

I would be shocked if VH inc didn't go to the funeral. They know how much he meant to him and I don't think things are as animus as people think.

Yup, Dave may not hang around the others on a daily basis, but they do have more than the average co-worker relationship. Plus I bet they have been close to Manny in the 78-85 years as well, it just didn't happen at the 2012 Cafe Wha? Gig.

Fuck if I would ever do that flight non stop. Boston to Zurich was too damn long!

Oh Manny didn't live in New York, he lived in California. Dave was likely coming back to Cali to see him. Just saw this from AP:

Manny Roth, founder of the Greenwich Village club Café Wha?, has died.
Roth, who gave early breaks to such future superstars as Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Bruce Springsteen, died July 25 at age 94. His daughter, Jodi Roth, said he died of natural causes at his home in Ojai, California.
He also worked with Richard Pryor, George Carlin and other comedians. The uncle of Van Halen singer David Lee Roth, he was among the guests at Café Wha? in 2012 when a reunited Van Halen performed there.
