Default Death Penalty - Chief 9th Circuit Judge - guillotine is the best method of execution

Alex Kozinski chief judge of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, wrote a blistering critique of lethal injection in a dissenting opinion in the death-penalty case of Joseph Wood, an Arizona convicted murderer whose July 23 execution was delayed by a Ninth Circuit panel on Saturday.

    http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/let...utions-n161641

If some states and the federal government wish to continue carrying out the death penalty, they must turn away from this misguided path and return to more primitive—and foolproof—methods of execution. The guillotine is probably best but seems inconsistent with our national ethos. And the electric chair, hanging and the gas chamber are each subject to occasional mishaps.
I agree, the guillotine is the most foolproof and humane form of execution, for the executed. A slight stinging in the neck, and it's over. That is, if you believe that the Death Penalty should ever be given under any circumstances.

The guy that shot up his relatives family down in Houston, in that clear cur case, yes, I would like his "head to roll". He does not deserve to continue to exist in society, in any form or function.

I don't know if I would characterize the guillotine as a "slight sting of the neck and it's over." Apparently your brain is still alive for a bit after decapitation, meaning the person can still feel pain and see the aftermath before the lack of blood and oxygen slowly shuts down the different parts of the brain. Plus, in our modern times, beheadings are associated with Islamic terrorists inciting fear into the populace. I'm not sure that's what we're going for, is it?

To me, lethal injection, if it must come to that, is still the best way to go, but I think they make it more complicated than it needs to be.

Let the guy choose how we wants to be killed. The week before, give him a rope and some privacy and tell him if he doesn't do it, we will. It would save everyone the effort.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

How about being devoured by a hungry beast? We could learn from Jabba The Hutt on this sort of thing. Way more friendly to the environment, everything is recycled!

Yes, but all it takes is one jedi with a mediocre understanding of the Force and it is all over.

That jedi reference reminded me of this song, which I haven't heard in well over a decade ...

Different than a "Military" execution, or a "mob mentality" execution, where no judge or jury has presided.

If we are trying to convince our selves that there is any "humane" way to execute a person, then these latest executions disprove that

If we are going to execute someone, it should be difficult, trying and emotionally rending. It is a final act of a terrible series of events beginning with the crime committed that results in the sentence execution.

and I'm not thinking that way because the killers need to suffer, although I think it would create more suffering in their years of anticipation of the uncomfortable execution. But we also as a society need to see that execution is not the illusion we have propagated of a peaceful "going to sleep". It's ugly, and it should be.

I'm not against capital punishment. I believe that there are heinous, evil people who have no place in society...the Dahmers, BTK killer, Hillside Strangler, Bundy, Putin, etc and they should be eliminated after we study the shit out of them.

but for your run of the mill murderers, crime of passion murders etc it seems like life without parole and rotting in jail is actually the better punishment.
