Damn, I wish I was in America, up in Canada we have to play second grade Canadian bands like April Wine every second song. I hear VH maybe once a week and only Panama and HFT at that. I am surprised that Guns N Roses isn't on that list though, I hear them way more than VH up here

Cool!! If this was a Sirius XM chart is would be Ozzy Osbourne 60% Percentage all plays.
You can wonder what Roth and Eddie Van Halen are doing in the same band. Its hard to imagine two guys with less in common psychologically, yet together they seem to make a complete personality. Maybe on "Ozzy's Boneyard", but it would be Tesla and Queensryche on "Hair Nation". Oy vey ...

Where is Bon Jovi? I thought they were supposed to be the biggest American rock band?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

This is more like it.I remember, somewhere, a post the eluded to VH being in the 20's or 30's...no way. They're definitely top five where I live.Have been for twenty years.
Zeppelin, AC/DC, VH, Aerosmith would be the order in my area.

I do question no Guns N Roses. They're ,at least, top ten in my area.

Along with Black Sabbath and Metallica not being listed I would have to agree.

What drives me a crazy about Classic Rock radio is that they play the same damn 3-4 "hits" from most of these bands. And then you have bands like Cheap Trick and KISS (Not listed above) that have a massive catalog of songs to choose from but you only hear the same 2-3 songs from them. This is why I have my Ipod hooked up in the car. Variety is the spice of life!

Agreed. But the reality is that it's what the vast majority of "fans" want, obviously. That's why I'm always shocked when I hear hardcore fans on messageboards complain about setlists and how band X should drop song Y because it's so tired and overplayed. Those overplayed songs are the only ones that most people want to hear! Over and over and over.

I'm sure that research would show that if you took a large sampling of listeners of classic rock radio (or any radio really) the instant a song came on that they didn't recognize they'd turn the channel. So it's the same few signature ones over and over. And that's why these bands have to play them all at the concerts every time. 90% or more of the fans that went to see VH last time out still went to hear them play Panama and Ain't Talkin' Bout Love, not The Full Bug or Girl Gone Bad and they probably wouldn't even know that VH had put out an album since the 80s. Popular music fans are INCREDIBLY shallow and people like us in this forum are the extreme exceptions. We can talk for hours about what guitar Eddie played on a certain song or discuss details about Me Wise Magic, but almost everybody else is just waiting to hear Jump again. As a music nut it frustrates me, but it'll always be that way.

strange how VH came in 2nd most played artist, but they didn't place anywhere in the 'most played individual songs' list?

I tend to take stuff like this with a pinch of salt really... what's that old saying, "there are lies, damned lies, and statistics".
