Sam's happy. I guess it's a matter of attitude. You don't need to own cabo wabo, just visiting probably can make you just as happy. What's clear is he keeps busy. Other guys that age that are retired with nothing to do are generally less happy, even if they have money.

Wonder what the Montrose medley was.

Space Station and Red Voodoo? Righteous!

I'd love to hear Rise Of The Animal(again), and Young Girl Blues before the old man hangs it up.

    And some HSAS!!

This is way out of left field and for some reason I thought of this today...but, knowing Joe didn't want to play any Halen--why couldn't he at least play along to the keyboard songs?

RN, "Dreams," WCTBL, and WIL are 4 of their Top 5 biggest tunes with Sam anyways and he would be playing minimal guitar.

Good read... long read. Seems like a few parts might have been snipped and used around the internet already.

Sammy Hagar interview: Diamond Dave, the Van Halens, and a long life in rock

At the age of 71, tequila multimillionaire Sammy Hagar can look back on an extraordinarily successful life in music – Montrose, Van Halen, Chickenfoot, The Circle and more

And then in 1985 you joined Van Halen. Day one in the rehearsal room with those guys – what was it like?

Oh, I can tell you exactly what it was like. At that stage I had a good career going, I was wealthy, I was eating in the finest restaurants and wearing the finest fucking clothes, I was driving Ferraris. I was becoming a little too sophisticated – it was killing my music. Whereas those guys were living a completely different lifestyle.

Long story short, I walked in that room and these guys had cigarette butts and empty beer cans and whiskey bottles everywhere, multi-thousand-dollar guitars lying upside-down on the ground. And it stunk like shit because of the smoke. Eddie comes walking out with a pair of sunglasses, jeans with holes in them, just outta bed, cracking a beer and smoking a cigarette. Alex was still drunk. Mike hadn’t even been home.

They’d been up all night waiting for me. I’m looking at these guys, then I’m looking at myself in a suit, and I go: “I look like a fucking idiot. This is a real rock’n’roll band.”

Did CF have a keyboardist on stage with them when they toured? How about on their albums?

So glad they never played VH tunes. Saves on a lot of unnecessary bellyaching... Sam can't sing 'em anymore... Joe can't play 'em right... ugh!

I'm saying IF Chickenfoot lasted longer and that was the band that was going to round out his and Mike's career, I, and I'm sure he and Mike, would want to pay VH songs sometimes, and this would be a good way to do it.

Just doing 2 tours behind 2 albums and MAYBE a third/reunion tour and no VH? I'm fine with that.

Would really like to hear CF play VH though. They do have their own sound and it's phenomenal.
