Kim Jong Un Swears ‘Merciless’ Retaliation if New Seth Rogen Film Released

Kim Jong Un Swears ‘Merciless’ Retaliation if New Seth Rogen Film Released

North Korea's leader isn't pleased with the latest film from funnymen Seth Rogen and James Franco, in which the pair play assassins pretending to be TV newscasters in order to kill the North Korean president. A Kim spokesman called it an 'act of war'

The government of North Korea is not pleased with Seth Rogen’s upcoming film The Interview, calling it a “wanton act of terror.”

The movie—slated for release later this year—stars Seth Rogen and James Franco, who attempt to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un after landing an interview with despot.

The North Korean government has promised a “merciless” retaliation against the United States if The Interview is released, calling the film an “act of war.” In a statement published by the state-run KCNA news agency, a spokesman said the film is the work of “gangster moviemakers” and is a “wanton act of terror.”

“The act of making and screening such a movie that portrays an attack on our top leadership… is a most wanton act of terror and act of war, and is absolutely intolerable,” the spokesman said, according to AFP.

An unofficial spokesman for Kim Jong Un said in an interview with The Telegraph that the film “mirrors what the U.S. has done in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Ukraine.”

Rogen wrote on Twitter that he hopes Kim Jong Un likes the movie.

Kim Jong Un Will Probably Watch Seth Rogen’s Movie About Assassinating Him

Sort of like going to your own funeral

North Korea has slammed the upcoming Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy about Kim Jong Un’s assassination as an example of the “desperation” of American society, but a spokesman for the North Korean leader says he will probably watch the movie anyway. Probably because the movie seems awesome.

The Interview, due in theaters in October, stars Rogen and Franco as a talk show team who are tasked with assassinating the North Korean dictator after the CIA finds out he’s a fan of their show. Kim Myong-Choi, executive director for the Center for North Korea-US peace and an unofficial spokesman for Kim Jong Un, said the North Korean leader would watch the film despite the fact that it lampoons his own death. But Myong-Choi also said Rogen and Franco’s joke about assassinating foreign leaders is a little too real.

“A film about the assassination of a foreign leader mirrors what the U.S, has done in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Ukraine,” he told The Telegraph in an interview. “And let us not forget who killed Kennedy—Americans.”

“In fact, President Obama should be careful in case the U.S. military wants to kill him as well,” he added.

Rogen wrote on Twitter that he hopes Kim Jong Un likes the movie.

He should give it a chance first. Maybe he'll like it.

Well, I had no plans on seeing this film in the theater...now I really have no plans on seeing this film in the theater.

SEOUL -- The health of supreme leader Kim Jong Un is one of the most closely guarded secrets in in North Korea. When his father Kim Jong Il fell into a coma after suffering a stroke in August 2008, North Korea's state-controlled media went all but silent, playing old pictures of Kim at public events without any mention of his condition.

"In a country like North Korea, where its leaders are deified and enjoy absolute rule, talking about their health is unthinkable," Ko Yoo-hwan, a professor of North Korean studies at Dongguk University in Seoul, told CBS News.
