Default 10 Years ago Today: The 04 tour starts

Just read that today was the 10 year anniversary of the start of the 04 tour.

I know this tour has been discussed to death here but I figured what the hell, I'll throw it out there.

Saw them in Auburn Hills, they weren't as bad as some reports. I actually thought they were good at the time.

9/11/04 was my first real concert and it was VH, 5th row. It wasn't one of the worst shows for Eddie, but he was nowhere near the form he's in today.

I did get a pick from Eddie, he threw it out during the last tune, "When It's Love." A few years later, I actually played in that same arena. I brought that pick and played my first notes in there with it, the intro to Panama. My wife recently framed Eddie's pick along with the pick I used for that gig for me.

Saw them at The Orleans in Vegas.

Hadn't seen them since F.U.C.K tour. I took my mom as the show took place on her birthday and she had been on this journey with me ever since I was a kid.

It started off promising and then went downhill from there. We kind of just looked at each other after the show and were like "oh, that was cool". We both knew it was shit. Sadly, in 2007, it was the same thing again.

Took my wife to the 2004 VH show in Sacramento, CA.

She spent half the show barfing. Granted, she was pregnant with morning sickness, but she also thought Eddie and the show sucked. She still brings it up to this day.

I thought it was ok. Not good, not horrible, but somewhere in the middle....

I saw them on twice on that tour - Cleveland and Ft. Wayne. It is hard to believe that it was 10 years ago. Sammy has stated that it was the second 40 shows that were that problem. I like what they are doing now, but wonder if they would have done something more if the tour stopped after 40 shows.
    Van Halen shows attended:
    08/21/91, 06/29/93
    08/02/93, 04/22/95
    07/18/95, 05/17/98
    07/25/98, 07/02/04
    11/11/04, 10/10/07
    03/09/12, 03/30/12

    David Lee Roth shows attended:
    07/24/91, 05/29/02 - opening night
    09/06/03

    Sammy Hagar shows:
    07/19/97, 06/04/99
    01/05/01, 09/09/01
    05/29/02 - opening night
    07/23/03, 07/04/06

You took your pregnant, sick wife to a concert?

And of all the concerts you take her to........

That's like something out of a fuckin Vacation movie.

Saw them on opening night in Greensboro, NC. I could tell right away that Ed was not in good shape. He was a mess on a lot of songs, and kept lying down on the stage while playing. Sammy, Mikey, and Al just brought it. Hi-lights for me were Humans Being, The Seventh Seal, and closing with When It's Love. I saw them twice more on the tour. Ed was having a much better night in Louisville, KY, but he looked like a wreck with that Samurai hair. Had Ed been healthy and playing as well as he did in '93 or '95, man what a tour it would have been.

I saw them both nights in St. Louis (withing the first 40), and believe me, the wheels had come off well before then.

Favazz, the local DJ on KSHE 95, interviewed Sam before the first show. After they left town he said on the radio: "you better go see them now because they aren't going to last." Unfortunately he was right. The tension was palpable and Eddie's condition was pathetic. It's a shame because that era really needed a better send off than that.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

The show I saw in Toronto was and to this day is my all time best concert experience ever. Did the 5 Star, saw soundcheck, Ed talked to me, front row centre tickets, got mentioned in the paper the next day....Was unreal.

And the fortuitous luck I had in getting that front row ticket is an even more amazing story.

The Linkers I met at the pre-show gathering, I still remain in close contact with and we still meet up before VH and Sammy shows.

The actual show itself was one of the best the ENTIRE tour so we here in Toronto got lucky. Eddie wasnt in the form he's in now. Far from it. But he wasnt embarrassing compared to some of the other shows he played later in the tour.

And even though I was such a fanboy at the time and didnt realize how fucked up Ed was, with the advantage of hindsight, Ill just forget that the Hamilton show ever happened....

I know. I was waiting for her out by the bathrooms when VH kicked into Unchained. I was all "damn, that was the one song I wanted to see" ........lol....

I figured it was her one only chance to see VH with Sammy.

When the 2007 VH tour rolled around she was like...... NO. She has seen Sammy solo several times though an enjoyed it.

I saw them in ATL. I had a great time. Some songs were better than others but it wasn't as bad as some of the vids I've seen. 07-08 and 12 were a lot better.

I skipped the 2004 tour. I obviously made the right decision.

Even with all the bad press it got, I still wish I'd seen this tour. Unfortunately they canceled all of the shows around here in favor of some Puerto Rico gigs or something.
