Default James Bond's Kramer Holy Grail Baretta

Hey everyone! I have been working on this one for quite some time now, I just happened to (nearly) finish it! I've got to say, preforming a factory finish on a white or in this case cream, color is SO HARD. It's definitely not a perfect finish, but I think it gives it a VOS type charm.

The Kramer Holy Grail Baretta was a run of 300 or so Kramers that were the first to be endorsed by EVH. Real ones are hard to come by, and when they do they fetch upwards of $3,000. You might remember the picture of Eddie holding the guitar with a "nobozo" shirt on *cough*

Most of them had maple bodies with maple and rosewood necks. I tried my best to replicate the original guitar while adding some flair to it as well!

The neck is a custom neck made by Musikraft. Darker rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl inlays with abalone side dots (flair haha). EVH profile with the Holy Grail headstock shape. The tuners are black gotoh crownheads as I couldn't find the correct no marked black gotohs with the right pilot hole angle.

Body is custom made from a maple chunk by Locke Custom Guitars (thanks Chris!). Chris also added the route inside of the back tremolo cavity that kramer added on the Holy Grail, saying it "improved spring action."

Hardware includes a vintage 1983 Black Floyd Rose that I cleaned up with a big steel block, 1982 custom wound Seymour Duncan JB wound by none other than MJ herself. I added the DiMarzio strap because I love how they feel on my Play Loud.

I'm picking up the nut tomorrow as Floyd Rose was back ordered so that will be correct come tomorrow!

    Very nice looking !
I remember those Kramer ads very well . Wow - has it been that many years ? Haha . I always thought that angle of the humbucker in that ad was dementedly slanted . It looked (to me , as a teen) really weird . Little did I know ...

Nick, fantastic job as usual! Chris did excellent work on the body shape. It is very different from the 5150 or any of the other guitars that Ed actually played like the 1984 or the "Hot For Teacher".

It is tough to find the right Schaller style Gotohs...I found the right ones for my black Musikraft 5150 "Kramer" replica, but I just got very lucky. I imagine they may be easier to find in black. I would suggest to try for black Schallers instead of the crownhead Gotohs when trying to find a replacement for the correct Gotohs...they are much closer in appearance to the Gotohs since the Schallers were actually what the Gotohs were trying to copy.

The creme color you got is actually what the vintage ones look like today and looks excellent for a relic'ed look, but I would think it would be cool for you to make one with just white paint and no clear coat and just buff it with some compound a little like you did on my '78 replica. This way the guitar will stay pure "white-white" and look closer to the way the guitar looks in the ad.

Really excellent work again my friend! Stay tuned to my thread about the '78 to see how the guitar comes out in the final stages

Here I am playing a real one around 1990.

My old guitar teacher bought this when the three guys from Kramer were personally driving around to all the music stores in NJ. They got there after closing and my guitar teacher happened to be the only one there who played guitar, so he tried it out, fell in love and begged them to sell it to him, which they did. It was later stolen in a home burglary.

About a year later my best friend got one of the candy apple red ones just like Sammy plays in LWAN. Totally different feel on the neck from the originals.

    Very cool guys!

It was really cool to recreate the VOS type aged finish on this one, but I really LOVE how those white ones look. If I make another down the line, I will totally go with that. Cool stories guys! Thanks for the input!
