Default Any ideas on this 5150 relic

This came from a cancer benefit auction. This was labeled as " used and worn guitar"
I had it shipped to me expecting something different. I was in shock when I opened the box. This is in mint and unplayed condiction. The relic paint job is so accurate, it had the auctioneer fooled . I bought this from the elderly lady who bought this only because it didnt get any bids( I assume) . She got this for basically nothine. The strat neck is something I have only seen on a 5150 very few times. I did have a pic of EVH with a similar one in his studio. Who ever built this knew how to relic a guitar. Any thoughts or ideas would be nice...i wish i knew the history ..,this fits nicely with my collection...

You have too many of those. You should sell that one to me.

    Wdalew5,

Great story! I was hoping someone could help you with this as the circumstances of how you acquired the guitar are truly strange.

Aside from the aesthetics... How does it sound compared to your other ones? Have you been able to determine what kind of pickup you're dealing with?

It kinda looks like the version of the 5150 he played live on "its about time"

why would someone use black as the base paint?

I think ( without removing) it may be an invader pick up. I am wondering if this is a kramer reissue production guitar that has been totally taken apart and reliced. This has a very nice clear coat over the relic. Odds are that the buyer wanted a relic complete with all visuals but didnt want to go the warmouth route. As far as the benefit goes, i still havent been told who the donor was . ( they prolly wont tell me) ...if i was at that benefit and saw this sell for the starting bid , i would have fainted.

It sounds great . The notes just hang and hang on forever. No slop . Still feels like it just left a factory. The pickup sound could use a little more depth. I am putting in a 59 SD . I love those. Look at the cavity . Perfect cut out etc.. Seems production of some sort

Some quick observations on your guitar...
The pick-up is a Dimarzio. You wont know which model until you look at the baseplate.
The body appears to be a Musikraft Kramer Pacer body and the neck appears to be a one-piece, Musikraft Charvel neck.
The Floyd Rose appears to be from the mid to late '80's.
The big block is a FU Tone "L" Sustain Block.
The neck plate is custom engraved, not production.
Whoever painted the body did a good job, but they did not know that the black stripes on the "5150" were actually painted over the red and white!

On second thought, I would say that the body was probably a factory finish, black Kramer MusicYo "1984"... that would explain the order of the paint. The black stripes were taped off, it was painted white, taped off again and then painted red.

Thank you so much for your observations Jim ! I have been beating my head trying to figure this out. I appears the black running stripes were painted last . I may be wrong . But either way , It is a superb relic job. My son grabbed it of the wall last night for this lesson. He actually left his LP custom shop at home. He rarely uses my 5150s. Bout time that ten year old got his act together...... Yuk yuk

Thanks again for everyones comments . I have a blast reading them. I always say out loud " well heck, i never thought of that " .... You guys rock

Okay, if it was a Kramer reissue, why would someone switch to a Fender style neck?

I am guessing some kind of musickraft build. Too many changed up parts to be a Kramer Reissue.

Lets just throw a pound of weed in the fire place, f@#% it!
