Default New Sammy acoustic record out soon

As long as it doesn't sound country-ish...

    http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/sam...t-known-songs/

Legendary rocker Sammy Hagar (CHICKENFOOT, VAN HALEN, MONTROSE) will release "Light Roast", a collection of acoustic versions of some of his best-known songs, later in the year via his web site. In a video greeting to his fans, dubbed "Redheads", Hagar says that he will not embark on an acoustic tour support of the CD, although he hopes to add an acoustic segment to his concerts in the future.

Regarding the recording process for "Light Roast", Hagar says: "It was just me and Vic [Johnson; longtime guitarist of WABORITAS, Hagar's backup band] live in the studio with no overdubs. Just two guitars, sometimes one guitar, sometimes just one voice, sometimes two voices."

Hagar adds: "I started to learn how to sing like that. I have the hardest time singing without a whole band behind me, but I learned how to do it and it really helped me. It will make me a better singer."

The idea for "Light Roast" was spurred by Hagar's preparation for the first annual "Acoustic-4-A-Cure" concert, which was held on May 15 at the Fillmore in San Francisco, California. The event benefitted the Pediatric Cancer Program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, and featured solo sets, duets and jam sessions.

I don't mind this idea. However, I've noticed it looks like he's about to get into the coffee business. If this is another way to peddle his many beverages, that is quite lame.

As soon as I saw the title of the album, a little voice in my head went "boo".

Maybe it's just the naive notion that rock'n roll should have a little bit of rebellion in it, but I don't like him making albums to shill coffee, Tequila, rum or whatever else. Not that is truly matters, but it does just scream "lame" and is so far away from trying to produce something artistic. It just takes away any and all of the romantic notions that we all carry in regards to musicians creating music.

Don't you have enough money Sam? Make something original.

Of course, I'll buy it, even though I have about zero desire to hear an acoustic of Love Walks In if that is truly what he is doing.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Ugh.. It was inevitable though..

If he had a decent producer the past few albums, he would have had:

    1) An album of rock
    2) An album of "Un Plugged" tunes (new and reworked)
    3) A country album.. To burn.. or throw at Kenny Chesney

Instead we got messes with a few gems along the way.. And yes, coffee & shops soon.. Not that it's cool, but he is a coffee freak..

I cringed at first because the same thought ran through my head. If he's naming it after the coffee house-acoustic guitar crowd, that's cool. But yeah, if he gets into the coffee business and this is supposed to be a launch for it that's lame.

Musically, I welcome the album. I was hoping that he'd have invited Nancy Wilson and a few other people to participate though. Her album "Live at McCabe's Guitar Shop" is one of my all time favorite albums.

Ah, didn't think of that. I am going to assume that is it until shown otherwise.

    jeez you guys are rough.

he did some acoustic shows and had fun.

he probably spent a day in his studio (maybe a week) and layed the stuff down.

he's not gonna make any money off of it and probably figures some of his fans might like to hear this stuff.

I saw some of the acoustic stuf from the last benefit he did and I thought he sounded pretty damn good.

it's not a big deal to me at all. I'll probably get it just to have it. I like to have some nice chill out music every once in awhile and this fits the bill.

Well, I had a basis for that coffee peddling opinion. A few days ago I noticed some sort of promo shots of him at some sort of coffee plant. I also feel like I heard him mention something about this recently. Anyone have any more info?

I have to steal one of the comments from under the original article.

"When rock bands release acoustic records it's a lot like farting on an escalator, it's fun to release, but nobody wants to experience it once it's out."

    LOL. Made me chuckle.

If Sam was doing a bunch of original compositions, or even SOME original compositions on it, I would be more geeked about it.

But hearing Three Lock Box acoustic does nothing for me.

And what the fuck is up with Vic's facial hair, is that a bulls eye?

Sammy Hagar Launches New Line of Coffee-Flavored Tequila

Sammy Hagar’s liquor empire continues to grow. The Red Rocker has announced the latest in his Cabo Wabo line of tequilas, a mixture of coffee and tequila called Cabo Diablo.

The beverage’s Facebook page says that the “sweet, bold essence of Arabica coffee, vanilla and dark cocoa is blended with 100 percent blue agave Cabo Wabo tequila from the highlands of Jalisco. The result is an unquestionable smoothness, balanced with the mischievous bite of tequila.”

Hagar began selling Cabo Wabo tequila in the U.S. in 1999. Even though he has sold his entire stake in the company to Gruppo Campari, he has remained on board as the public face of the brand. In November 2011, Hagar launched Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum, a small-batch silver rum produced in Hawaii. The rum is now available in nearly every state in the U.S.

Cabo Diablo, which is 35 percent alcohol by volume, is currently available in five states: New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut and Wisconsin. Hagar is asking fans to discuss the product on social media using the hashtag “#DiabloMadeMeDoIt.”

Default Looks like Sam has a new Joe in his life

After jamming with Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper, Richie Sambora and more for Alice Cooper's Maui Food Bank fundraiser on NYE, I went home and on New Year's morning brewed up my first cuppa from coffee beans from my pineapple planation in Maui!
