Mods feel free to move this to the proper location, but I was just wondering if anybody has the MP3 of this interview? Feelin a bit nostalgic and Im trying to find it but it doesn't seem to be on YT.

Mucho gracias! What did you search for on YT to find it? Cause Ive tried everything. Westwood One VH interview. Van Halen interview 2004.

And I never saw that come up.

Edit: Just grabbed the link from your post. Thanks Font! Much appreciated!

We can now see why the band didnt do too many interviews in that tour. I'm sure even those 2 guys (Ed and Sam) couldn't spew out that much BS on a daily basis in interviews.

Poor Mike had to try to act like he was part of the family when he actually wasnt.

Sam just bullshitted his way through the entire interview. The BEST work the band has ever done?.....STFU Sam.

Ed was a couple nuggets short of a Happy Meal.

And Al....well he basically just laughed.

As big a fan as I am of Sam (Sounds like a Dr. Seuss book...) he really shouldn't bitch too much about the 2004 Tour because his motivations could definitely be called into question. In his book, he says he knew Ed was a mess before the contract was signed and the tour started. We all know Sam knew that Ed didnt even want Mike involved.

You'd think...after seeing Eddie in the condition he was in and not even wanting Mikey to be apart of the Reunion, Sam could have foreseen that the tour would be a mess. But he went along with all of it and singed a supposed "horrible" contract.

Don't get me wrong... Ed was the reason that tour was, for the most part, an embarrassment. I had an amazing time at the Toronto show but many people didnt have a similar experience.

But Sam needs to shoulder a lot of the blame as well for going along for it. Then there was that KLOS interview Sam did in October 2004 where he was basically saying the tour didnt go as he planned and how he wishes "everybody" was as into it as he was and how he would have cut ticket prices in half.

The ticket price comment is what bugs the shit out of me. Don't even say that. You knew the condition Ed was in. You knew about the Mike situation. You knew about the shitty contract and you knew about the fact that ticket prices would be high for a high profile reunion like that.....don't come out a month before the tours over and say that you would have cut ticket prices in half. You signed the contract. You agreed to everything.

    That bugs me about Sam.

I was 15 and I did the 5 Star thing alone so that wasnt really in the cards for me

But I'm sure, given the amount of attention I was getting for being a 15 year old die hard VH fan, Im sure I could have gotten something that night if I tried

Best write up about the 2004 cash grab ever.. Well said.

I am a huge Sam fan, but the business side of his brain clearly took the wheel and ran that bus over a cliff.

Stevie Wonder could see Ed was not in any shape to play a birthday party, let alone a 100 date tour..
The Mike vibe / karma was crazy bad.
Al.. Did he get divorced again? LOL.. I can only hope / assume that he genuinely believed that a tour would help get his brothers shit together..

Otherwise, they were all pimps... We were the ones who got fucked..

Yeah no doubt Ed was by far the weakest link on the tour but I don't think that took Sam by surprise. He had to know the first few times they discussed the tour, record, etc that Ed was a mess. He had a chance to bail once he knew Ed didn't want Mike to tour. However he went forward.

Eddie was at fault but Sam shouldn't have known better. He can't bitch about what happened because he surely knew what was coming down the road. I mean its like some dude going back to his ex wife or girlfriend. However she is far worse today than they were when the broke up. Everybody knows what will happen.

I saw them three times on the tour, including the opening show. Sammy, Mikey, and Al were on fire; Eddie sucked. I was so embarrassed for him. It hurt inside.

Learning to See--great lyrics; weird mash-up of music.
Up for Breakfast--cool groove; terrible lyrics.
It's About Time--lyrics were fine but pigeonholed the song; solo sucked.

Sam had toured with Ed drunk before and thought he would be able to hold it together come showtime. Sam's always going to err on the "glass half full" side. I don't think he could truly grasp how bad the situation had become with EVH. He thought Ed would snap out of it.
It's a hard gig to turn down. Dave tried like 5 times before the "reunion" actually got off the ground!

I did the same. I will say Detroit of the three shows was the best one I went to.

I jammed Up for Breakfast yesterday and it had potential. Sammy's melody is cool, the music is cool and even the "Up For Breakfast" is fine. Its just the references of food that kill it.

I always think the solo to Learning to See as a parallel to what was happening in Eddie's head. A bunch of noise
