Default What songs were written when?

What Sammy songs were written during the Dave era?
    Summer nights
    Right now
    Good enough
    AFU

What Dave songs were written during the same era?
Can't get that stuff no more
    You and your Blues??

What songs would you like to have heard the other one sing?? Ex. Dave singing over Summer nights or AFU?

I know that they tried summer nights with Dave. As for the rest I imagine Ed had them lying around because he said he wrote most of the music in 1981-82 if I remember.

'Summer Nights' is one of my favorite Van Halen songs , regardless of era/singer .

Sammy knocked it out of the park !!! I'm pretty sure Dave would've also scored a win , had he sang over that awesome music .

Ill go off the beaten path here and I have no real proof of this except for the styling of the song, the melody and the guitar solo....So it's really just a guess....

You and Your Blues....I think that song was written for Gary to sing. I even think the guitar solo we hear on ADKOT was recorded back in the day.

I wouldn't want to hear Dave sing on many Sammy era VH tunes. Dave's style just didnt go well with the new direction the band was going, IMO. Maybe Apolotical Blues or Inside? I think Dave could have done well on Aftershock as well.

Roth era Songs Id wanna hear Sammy sing:

Bottoms Up, The Full Bug, Drop Dead Legs, LUTS.

Dave would ruin any Sammy era song.

Sammy improves every Dave era song.

I absolutely hate You and Your Blues. It is the least Van Halen song since How Many Say I.

I'm a pretty big fan of Sam and even I think that's an insane, possibly LSD induced comment. Not trying to be a dick. Just being honest.

Even Sammy Hagar probably thinks some of your bias towards him is over the top.

If Sam really thought he could sing those classics better than Dave could, you bet your ass that he would have sung more of them, in order to prove it to the fans. The truth is that he HATED singing that era. He felt extremely uncomfortable doing it. And I don't blame him for feeling that way! How do you sing those songs with the same attitude and charisma as Dave? You don't. He sang a few of his choice, because he had to.

I was backstage one night during the Balance tour when I presented the band with issue #2 of The Inside magazine. After a couple days, Scotty looked at me with a very serious look and said, "Jeff, never again". I said, "Never again, what?" He said, "You printed all those letters from people complaining that they weren't doing more of the older songs in concert. Those letters caused a BIG argument before the show last night. EVERYBODY wants Sam to sing more of them, but he just won't budge. It's a very sore subject. It was BAD. Never again."

He had a thing up his butt about those old songs. He didn't want to be compared to Dave. This is not just my opinion.

I really consider them two different bands. Neither singer could sing the other's songs and "do them justice". Their singing styles were seriously nothing alike. Sammy was right. Would be just as out of place to ask him to sing Journey songs.

    Interesting tidbit.
Of course, things weren't the best between them during this time anyway.

I don't think we'd want Dave trying to sing some of the Sammy songs when he struggles with his own at times.
