Can't believe you started this thread. I had the same exact thread in mind the past few days and was going to check with AT to see if he'd want something like this.

    Anyways, this is random.....

Today I changed strings on both guitars from 10's back to 9's after about 8 months since I went from 9's to 10's. I was fully expecting to have to tweak the bridge because of the change in tension but it doesn't look necessary. It still looks as straight as before. If the trem is off at all it's so minimal I can't notice it. Was really surprised by this.

Isn't that wild? I've had similar experiences coming back to 9s from 10s. I would think that the 42 and 46 would be the game changers! But yeah, typically no big deal. I guess it takes just a little more tension than that to effect the spring tension. I was trying to think about why I ever started using 10s and it started when I was mainly playing Gibsons I guess and it seemed like 10s were better for playing rhythm which was 90% of the time. I still did your standard bends...but definitely not 2 1/2 step bends at the 17th fret!

Yeah it seems to have been a pretty smooth change as far as the bridge and staying in tune. No adjustments needed.

Only problem I see is that the Floyd is now much stiffer to push down. Not sure why that would be.

Less string tension pulling against the trem springs.

Yeah I know its all tied together but less string tension made virtually no difference on the bridge setup. Should I remove a spring? I have 3 now.

I assume this is a dive only trem so you're not trying to balance flat/sharp? If so you could loosen the claw some definitely and maybe even drop a spring. I imagine if you drop a spring though you will probly have to tighten the claw some to make up for the dropped spring.
It it's a floater getting that balanced trem feel is gonna be tougher.

    Yes. Dive only.

Thanks, Ted. I'll take a closer look at it. Like a dummy I overlooked the obvious.....of course its still straight since there is a trem block and less string tension sends the trem towards the block, not away from it. Duh.

    Couple things....

    - Don't know how I ever let someone talk me into switching to 10's. After coming back to 9's I can't believe how much better they feel to me. I never took to the 10's after 8 months of using them. To each his own but for me I think the 9's are a thousand times better.

    - I think I found a big mistake I was making in my setup regarding the smoothness of the trem arm. I guess I thought because I had a trem stop in the back that how tightly the claw was screwed in didn't matter all that much. Dumb ass. Just backed the claw out to that point where it comes away from the trem stop then snugged it back up against it. Tremolo Arm feels much easier to bend now. Such a common sense thing. Don't know how I didn't catch that before.

Default Vox VT 50 Amp Problem

    Cool thread!
I've got a question for anyone who may have this issue with Modelling combos that have a toneshaping/attenuation tube located in the speaker compartment.
Lately my Vox has been getting some terrible microphonic squeal on it's own when I turn the volume up to gigging levels. I assume the the stock EH 12ax7 tube is microphonic, but I've tried changing several tubes, and the amp is real picky as far as what works, and what doesn't, as it seems to need that specific stock style tube so it doesn't sound bonk or too abrasive. I reinstalled the stock Electro Harmonix 12ax7. Generally, the tube does it's job as far as giving great tone with the attenuation knob, but wide open and loud, the amp squeals like a pig getting a colonoscopy.
Are there any other brands that are less prone to microphonics in these types of amps, or, is there another fix or mod that can help eliminate the problem?
It's a great little amp to gig and jam with, so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks!

Just got lost in where I was in the song, then I panicked.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Man! Hate it when that happens! At least it was in Church, and by virtue, they're a pretty forgiving lot.......Only one you gotta worry about offending with your brainfart is the big guy upstairs!

I don't know why but I prefer Ernie Balls Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings over the classic super slinky/thin strings. I like the extra bottom end I guess.
