    Default 'Five Percent Nation'

Jay-Z raised eyebrows at the Barclay's Center last week when he wore a medallion symbolizing the Five Percent Nation.

The Brooklyn-born rapper was sitting court-side at a Nets game on Tuesday with wife Beyonce when he was snapped wearing the controversial symbol.

One of the core tenants of the Five Percent Nation - an off-shoot of the Nation of Islam - is that white people are 'wicked and inferior' to black men.

I really can't stand jay z or beyonce at this point. I'm sick of seeing them all the time and I'm sick of yahoo reporting every single thing they do.

am I suprised he was wearing that symbol? nope. No one will say a word about it and no one who preaches racial harmony will say a thing about it cause it's all good to rip on white folks. it's not politically incorrect at this point.

    Whos JZ?

It's much more a rap thing than a religious thing. Likely as relevant as fat laces and parachute pants.

As long as you hate white people it's ok to be racist and wear racist symbols I guess. I wonder if he could get away with a swastika necklace?

I don't think he could get away with a swastika. That would be his 100th problem!

Does anybody remember how MTV and the rest of the entertainment media gave Public Enemy's overall racism and hardcore anti semitism a pass during the eighties? Only when one of their members, Professor Griff, stated these views in an interview did anybody in the media condemn them.
"He has a swaggering retro machismo that will give hives to the Steinem cabal" -Camille Paglia on Donald Trump

"Make way for the bad guy"- Tony Montana

'This hamburger don't need no helper"- David Lee Roth

"I wish Bon Jovi would've given me a call before he recorded all of his hits, because the lyrics would've been smarter, the melodies would've been much more smashing, and they would've sold a lot fewer records." -David Lee Roth

"My beef is people thinking Bon Jovi is good cuz they sold lots of records to housewives." -tango

"But being number one doesn’t really mean jack fuck all. We sold twice as many records as other records that year (1984) that landed in the Number One position." ~Eddie Van Halen

ironically he was taken to task for not standing up for the black people when there was a controversial arrest of a young black man at Barneys clothing store in New York

the store has mistakenly arrested the teen for paying for the purchase of some luxury goods with a presumed stolen debit card

he claimed racial profiling by the store and a petition to get Jay Z to pull his clothing line from the store was started

    http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/171...petition.jhtml

Jay Z's response was "I am against discrimination of any kind, but if I make snap judgements... aren’t I committing the same sin as someone who profiles?"

in other words "are you crazy? do you know how much money I make thru that store?"

he says the profits from the line go to charity...yeah sure

so my point is ...racism schmacism.. Jay Z comes down firmly on the side of making himself some money

There is a double standard in lots of scenarios involving minorities and/or race, and it's understandable within the context of years of oppression and institutionalized racism.

That said, the acceptance of most double standards must erode in order for us to achieve as close to equality as is possible.

In other words, Jay-Z wearing this--other than an initial furor--will fade as a non-story. But if Justin Timberlake wore a swastika necklace, it would be a huge story. That's because of history.

But in order for us to find greater harmony, eventually these two things need to be thought of equally.

Unfortunately, I don't think that is ever going to happen. I am friends with a Black family. Mom and two sons have PhDs, while the son I am closest to is a veteran. Dad was a blue collar worker with a good paying job. They are not overt with their views, but they are left wing and they tell me there is a lot more racism out there than I see.

They basically tell me that even people who aren't racist do things subliminally that are racist, which makes them racist. In other words, White people, especially those with conservative viewpoints, are inherently racist. Take that with critical race theory, which says that any belief, idea, or policy, whether inherently racist or not, that disproportionately and negatively affects minorities is, in fact, inherently racist. That's the predominant theory on race in academia, and even better, those who disseminate that theory also get to decide what "negatively affect" means.

It's more than just race; it's political.
