    Default 2014 Kramer "The 84"

Does anyone have any info on these? Are they the same as the MusicYo versions? How is it different from the Kramer Baretta Reissues? I know they added a truss rod adjustment access...and chrome hardware, and a different pickup.

The new name is "The 84".

Is it worth it to get one of these for $700?
Or do I build one through Musikraft? What would be the final cost on a Musikraft 5150? I do not know much about building guitars at all. I would have to have someone else set it up.

Here's what I paid to build that exact guitar minus the white body:

$230 - Banana Neck from KnE (22 jumbo frets 12" radius)
    $120 - 5150 body from KnE
    $77 - Floyd Rose Special
    $60 - Seymour Duncan SH-4 humbucker
    $30 - Tuners
    $40 - Paints and stains
$30 - Misc parts like wire, volume pot, knobs (tried different options), etc

DD's headstock looks a lot more accurate in shape and size than the 1984. I've played the real holy grail many times and the 1984 too. The 1984's headstock just isn't the right shape.

Correct...both the Musikraft and the KNE headstock shape is much closer than either the MusicYo or this current 1984 guitar.

    Good luck with it !
I was browsing the Warmoth site today . I might get into the custom guitar game too , though not for an EVH clone . Just something for my own tastes and preferences .

Yeah...You'll be better to build your own. I'm told the headstocks are actually thinner than the original Kramers which can be a little more prone to breakage. They also changed the body wood. It's maple now...Maybe "soft maple" which is more of a swamp maple. It still sounds killer. G&L uses it on the Cantrell sig. Rampage reissue, but it's brighter.Usually to compensate, you've gotta use a little more bottom mid heavy pickups. I think the 'Yo series was poplar, and even there it was not two or three pieces...Usually a fair number glued together, and they had veneer fronts and backs from what I recall to prevent the joints from showing which can happen with normal contraction and expansion.

Definitely do it. I took it on having absolutely no experience doing anything like it. But with only one pickup and one volume knob there's really not a lot to it. My biggest headache was getting no sound from the pickup when everything looked to be wired correctly. Turned out I was a little sloppy with the solder and it was shorting out the connection. Other than that, no biggie.

I also opted for staining the body which was never my intention getting into it but when push came to shove I didn't trust myself to do a quality paint job. Staining was a cop out solution but I actually love that I went that route. It couldn't have worked out better.

I'm going to start by getting a banana neck and a franky pickup for my old Yamaha (my first guitar) that has completely worn frets. Just to learn how to work on em... I painted it like a green 5150. If that goes well....

Then, I'll start my own 5150 project.

I am thinking of just staining it...and the headstock to match (kind of a classy homemade look).

Unless there is a way to make a quilted 5150...I think that would be sick...green quilt? Is that possible with a curved guitar?

I hope that is a typo....

I paid about $800 for mine, which is still a great deal considering all the stuff that come with it....

Buy some tape and a few cans of paint and a pickup and strings and you end up with this...
