Default If you had a time machine, how would you have changed VH's past and future?

If you had a time machine, what year(s) would you go back to and what would you change?
Anything VH related is free game. Starting a argument of "___ was a better singer" is not the same as "I would change this so _____ does ____ instead of _____ joining".
    Try to stay on topic.

I might go back to 99 or so and convince Gary to stay with the band and release the VH3 follow up, all while warning them of the "VH dark ages" in the next decade that would follow if they did otherwise.

I do want to give credit to Jeff of VHND giving me this idea in the discussion thread of the new 78/79 shows, when he said he would go back to 79 before going to any other years.

I would go back in time and try to become their manager. I would pay the big bucks to have them properly recorded throughout their career. Not just with their 8mm camera for their Betamax video camera, but more pro-shot shows. I would try to get them to record more, and tour less. As tension in the band grew, I would try to get the best counselors and therapists for them. We don't need the greatest rock 'n roll band ever breaking up any time soon.

1985 would've been a real tough one. Try like hell to get Dave's ego in control, and try to prevent him from doing the EP. Basically, I would try anything to prevent them from breaking up and Dave going solo. Maybe a year or two off, while we release a live album and/or concert film to keep them on top. Imagine the original band releasing the followup to 1984. <head explodes>

I'd make them go on The Muppet Show.

April 1 1985 doesn't happen. The band simply takes a year off, maybe two.

Id go back to 1994 and change the hiring of Ray Danniels and convince Sammy to not to release Unboxed.

Basically do anything I could to keep Van Hagar as the band.
    [B]
    Eddie Van Halen in 2012:

"ESQ: What are you going to do with all the material that you wrote with Sammy Hagar?

EVH: Oh, I hadn't thought about that. That's some great music. They're just on vacation, maybe. They're off to college and they're going their own way. Who knows?"

I would go back to March 1985 and do everything that I could do prevent the band from becoming Journey 2.0.

I would go back in time and get Dave's ego and cocaine in check, Alex and Eddie would get mandatory rehab. I think Alex had a case or more a day habit back then. Everybody would take a year off.

If I had a fucking time machine, the last thing on Earth I would be concerned about would be Van Halen.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I'd go back to about 2000, copyright the red w/ white & black stripes, sue the hell outta ELVH Inc, quit my job, and let the licensing checks roll in. Aww, yeah... Daddy's home.

I would go to 1984 and show Dave video from the 2002 tour and tell him: "look, this is what will happen to you if you continue to act like an asshole."

I would then turn to Ed and show him clips of him playing--high--in his backyard in 2004 and tell him: "look, this is what will happen to you if you continue to act like an asshole."

I would turn to Al and show him a clip of an 8 year old Wolfgang and say: "look, this is the remainder of your rhythm section in the future if you don't start to appreciate Mike."

I would turn to Mike and say: "you know...you actually turned out fine. Don't worry about it."

Heh. Are you kidding me? Don't get me wrong, I'd try to prevent huge tragedies, fix things, like Kill Hitler, check out Jesus, the dinosaurs, etc. But the FIRST thing I'd do is set the dial to 1978-1981 and experience the best rock shows that anyone could ever see. Come on, DD, let's go!
