    Default What is this?

This has most certainly been answered in the past, however I have never been able to determine what the square device was on Ed`s mic stand on the VH3 and by this I don`t mean the microphone.

    Thanks

I was always curious as to what that box was , too . I never thought to ask about it before - good call .

Could it be the "magic black box" of Eddie's , that Nugent and Les Paul were asking about ? Haha .

Does this picture have the black box inquired about? The one sitting atop the mic's XLR cable plug?

    I don't think so...

This is from a 2003 post here at the forums... "I believe what you're referring to was a sensor that Ed had on his mic stand. It would basically turn the mic on when he approached it to sing and turn it off when he moved away from the stand, avoiding feedback and other sound problems."

I suspect rob is wrong. Humans being was never played on the 98 tour. In fact it was never played live as far as I can prove.

It would make sense that a noise gate might be used on a mic but why at the source. Typically gates are used at the terminal input like a channel in put on the front house board. I thought perhaps it was a tuner, but for what? His vocals. That never held water. For years I have struggled to understand this device's utility. I think now it may have been an intensional piece of shut he put in the stand to make me look and ponder. But I still want to know for sure. Alien tech, CIA, FSB, what the hell is that thing?
