Here's Part I of that interview: http://takecoverandshoot.com/2011/07...-kent-stanton/. Only talks about Van Halen a little bit at the end, but the interview that Ed-A-Holic posted will make a little more sense.

A very cool story. How amazing it must have been for this kid to have DLR tell him that he loves his art.

Cool story . That guy is a lucky individual for sure . His memories from that period are nice to read .
One thing though - that was not Dave playing the acoustic intro to Take Your Whiskey Home .

Dave's a fine picker in his own right , yet the song in question is undeniably Edward .
"There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen
"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - a very wise fan.
"Embrace the past. Live in the moment but keep your eyes on the future, and keep on moving forward..." - Richie Sambora

Yeah, that was a very cool read indeed. Love these kind of stories.

I always assumed Dave had the shirt custom made for him. Now I'm intrigued to see that other band painting he did which got him noticed in the first place. It must be amazing by the reaction from everyone.

The KISW radio show with the 1984 tales from the roadie was also pretty cool to check out this week. Funny stuff. You can just imagine how much of a blast it must of been for all of them back then.

Really, what kind of man wears a t-shirt with an airbrushed image of himself on it, that's like quoting yourself in public?

    Big time American rock star.

I'm sure Elvis, Alice Cooper, and many others have done the same thing. I guess there is kind of a showboat element to it. Some might think he was a bit of a dandy. What they call shameless self promotion. Evel Knevil wore shirts with his self portrait. It is not uncommon.

What struck me as kinda funny was that he wore it in public thinking no one would recognize him if he is wearing a shirt of himself.

The same kind of guy who paints his guitar red with black and white stripes along with his shoes, his overalls, his truck, his golf cart, his basketball court, etc ... :-)
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

I know a quote from the MMA fighter Joe Lauzon that fits this-
"I'm not being paid to pimp *insert list of clothing/accessory companies here*, so why should I? So I wear Lauzon gear, advertise myself."

    It was something like that.

In Roth's case, a guy with a great sense of humor. Always thought it was hilarious and intended to be that.
