Default A Popular Rapper Was Asked What Advice He Would Give to His Colleagues –

Appearing on “The Arsenio Hall Show” last week, Grammy-nominated rapper Kid Cudi offered some really great advice for the rap industry — advice that many people hope the industry will take to heart.

“I think the braggadocio, money, cash, hoes thing needs to be deaded,” he said. “I feel like that’s holding us back as a culture, as black people. It doesn’t advance us in any way, shape or form. We’ve been doing that same theme for years now. It’s been like what, four decades of the same old bulls**t.”

Cudi continued: “If you’re going to be an artist, there’s a time where you just have to, you know, embrace the responsibility and understand that the power of music is something so special and to be able to do it on this magnitude where you reach millions of people — it’s like why not use that for good? Why not tell kids something they can connect with and use in their lives?”

The rapper, wearing what looked like a Green Day T-shirt, then started to get emotional as he revealed the ”mission statement” of his rapping career, which he says has always been to “help kids not feel alone” and “stop kids from committing suicide.”

The rapper’s comments mean he is on the exact same page as Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, who recently told Valerie Jarrett to advise President Barack Obama to tell “gangsta rappers” to stop glorifying violence, money and drugs.

"He has a swaggering retro machismo that will give hives to the Steinem cabal" -Camille Paglia on Donald Trump

"Make way for the bad guy"- Tony Montana

'This hamburger don't need no helper"- David Lee Roth

"I wish Bon Jovi would've given me a call before he recorded all of his hits, because the lyrics would've been smarter, the melodies would've been much more smashing, and they would've sold a lot fewer records." -David Lee Roth

"My beef is people thinking Bon Jovi is good cuz they sold lots of records to housewives." -tango

"But being number one doesn’t really mean jack fuck all. We sold twice as many records as other records that year (1984) that landed in the Number One position." ~Eddie Van Halen

that is sound advice but I think telling rappers to stop glamorizing drugs, ho's and violence is like telling country songwriters to stop writing about beer, trucks, fishing and family.

music does influence culture but mostly it reflects a culture.

what you have to do is to get people in general to stop accepting drugs, ho's and violence as part of the culture...when no one identifies with the content, then it's "deadened"

one guy like this can make a difference tho by sticking to his guns and being an example

Will Smith has been giving this speech for about 20 years. Don't think anyone is listening. It's unfortunate.

Bill Cosby even longer, but he's usually ignored.

Me, I'm just taking whiskey to the party tonight, and I'm looking for somebody to squeeze.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Good for this dude, if that's his thing. But blaming rap music for violence and mysoginy is like blaming drinking songs for alcoholism.

    Default Idiots Guide

Rap videos (and the songs themselves) have become as cliched as hair band songs and videos in the late 80's. They would be parodies if they weren't trying to be serious.

Want to write a rap song? Here's all the points you need to hit:
    - I have more money than you and make it rain at da club, don't you wish you were me?
    - I'm harder than you, don't you wish you were me?
    - I have sexy bitches dancing in slow motion around me at all times, don't you wish you were me?
    - I have fancy cars (that are rented because this is my first big video and I haven't been paid yet), don't you wish you were me?
    - I can't $pell, but don't ho' dat againzt me

Basically, this is the same pattern that hair bands fell into:
    - I drink all the time
    - I sleep with so many women--sometimes two or more at a time--that I don't have time to learn their names
    - I look pretty, can't you tell by my hair and makeup?
    - I wear a bandana around my head...I don't know why...probably because it hides my receding hair line.
    - I only care about one woman...she's "the one"...so I wrote this sappy love ballad on an old acoustic. You know, the acoustic that has been reliqued so it looks like it's a sad old guitar that I tell my secrets to. Well, actually, our producer wrote this one for us because he told us having crossover appeal with the ladies was the only way we would get on the charts. Luckily he wrote it using the four chords I know: G, C, D, and an Am in there for when shit gets sad and serious.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.
