Default 19 year anniversary of the opening night of the Balance tour 3/11/95

Just occurred to me a second ago.

I know the whole show is on YouTube (or it used to be).

I remember thinking they were off when I saw the footage.

Much better for the summer leg-2nd best show I've seen actually.

    Thoughts?

Pensacola correct? they were good IMO. Sam was at the end of a cold....Ed was playing sober for the first time. you could tell.

Ed's solo was cool. Played Close Encounters theme..

Much better in the summer..yes. But good nonetheless.

I've seen some of the clips online . Looked to be a good show , and I didn't get the impression that Edward was 'off' or nervous , due to his sobriety . Also , I wasn't aware that Sam was having an illness . Wow . Still learning things about this band all the time !

I missed the Balance tour live . They played 2 nights in Toronto , but I wasn't able to attend for personal reasons . Little did I know that the Pay-per-view special would be one of their most popular concerts from that era !!!

I've seen it on DVD quite a few times. The band seemed tight but there was very little interaction between Sam and Ed. Very noticable imo. Great guitar solo too.

One part I thought was cool involved Sammy dedicating Dreams to the US Navy Blue Angels, who are based in Pensacola.

I always thought it was an amazing tribute to the Angels , VH , and the song itself .

VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.

Saw them early in the tour in Providence then the day Jerry Garcia died at Great Woods as it was called then or was it Tweeter Center I don't remember. But yes, they were better in the summer.

Y'know, I remember watching the Montreal PPV from the Balance tour when it aired and coming away with an unsettled feeling about it. For some reason it seemed to have this dark undercurrent to me and I remember thinking that it wasn't a good representation of a Van Halen concert. It was never one of my favs. And then, after the tour was over they did the Twister soundtrack thing and then boom....Sammy is out of the band......because of that, Balance has never been one of my favorites because it will always sound like the beginning of the end for me.....

    Great Woods

I was at the show too. At the end of the show, I threw a banner on stage. Sammy picked it up and he and Alex held it up for the crowd. It said, 'Great Woods Survived the Aftershock'.

Saw them 4 times on that tour: Worcester, Albany, Great Woods, Hartford.

I honestly didn't know that there was a Montreal PPV from this tour !
This fan need to check that out asap . I thought that Toronto was the only such date , much like the 1998 Sydney gig down under ...

The Balance tour was awesome. I saw them three times on that tour and each night was outstanding. Saw them the day of the OKC bombing and twice more that Summer. Sammy dedicated Don't a Tell Me to the victims.

My impression of the first show was that the band was shaking off a little rust. It was a great show, but they needed a few shows before everybody was firing on all cylinders.

And here I was thinking that some more pro shot footage was looming on Youtube . False alarm ...
