I forgot how much DLR was the star of that tour.

Ed still doesn't have his chops back, and the backing vocals...ugh.

Wolf's a lot better on the backing vocals now.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I think I have said this before, but I think you can judge the quality of shows from that tour generally on one thing.

Does Ed have a shirt on? Yes - he plays good. No - could have been ugly.

He's ok in the show you posted, and THANKS for posting it, but you can tell Ed isn't on his game yet.

I'm not sure I would call him the star of the tour. He was more like the focal point of curiosity.

Wolfgang has matured immensely. Frankly, I think it was borderline child abuse to put him in that situation.

And a few years later, he's recorded an album with them and toured again. Amazing how we got to see this happen.

It is amazing to look back at the 2007 tour until now and see how much Wolf has changed and grown.

By star of the tour, I meant from the show I saw and most clips, it is DLR and Al holding that band together (and let us be honest, the drummer never gets any credit unless his name ends in Peart), every song seems to almost be on the precipice of turning into a train wreck.

I read you and I agree. As much as Ed is always the focal point of VH shows, DLR and Al did hold these shows together. I wish we had gotten the 2007 DLR with the 2012 Wolf and Ed.

    Me too.

I enjoyed both shows, don't get me wrong, but it seems to be a long time since we have seen a touring version of Van Halen that was hitting on all four cylinders.

    Thanks for posting !
I caught the 2007 tour and loved it immensely . It was a blast to finally see Eddie and Dave together onstage . Great memories of that show ...

The St. Louis show was cancelled twice, which at the time sent me into a rage, but in retrospect worked out for the better.

By the time they came back around Ed was wearing a shirt, playing his ass off, and Dave still sounded great. It was probably as close to perfect as this iteration has gotten.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Saw them in Indianapolis in 2007. It was a very good show. The sound sucked in the Fieldhouse there. It wasn't the band's fault, it was the venue. It was a good night. Saw them on the tour opener in 2012 in Louisville. The band rocked and Dave did okay on most tunes. Noticeable difference from '07, though. Wolf and Ed tore it up together.
