I'm sort of new at posting around here, but I've been reading for quite awhile. I was just wondering what the story is behind the pleasure dome closure over at the official VH site. If this has already been discussed or is a taboo subject, I apologize. Also, why did music yo suddenly close their message board too??

    Thanks in advance,
    Ryan

I don't think any official statement was given about "The Dome's" closure, but this is what happened. Due to the lack of news coming out from the band, there was a flood of incorrect rumors being posted on the site. Also many of the posts on the site were VH bshing threads over the lack of any official band news. I guess the guys got tired of reading bashing threads and decided to close the dome...

Bottom line: Bradman (and the band) couldn't (or wouldn't) take the heat from all us VERY dissatisfied fans. Three cheers for Brett for keeping the VHForums open!

I have wondered the same thing. Recently I got the Journey 2001 DVD (think it's great). And was just curious what the die hard Journey fans think of the new guy. I'm telling you, it's just like reading these boards sometimes.

Fans can be.. well.. fanatical sometimes.

    The official answer...

We're sorry, The Pleasure Dome, the band's official message boards will be temporarily closed until further notice. Update: The boards will re-open a little later down the road, bigger and better than ever. Thanks for your patience!

The Dome was closed in November of last year and the "update" was posted in February. I'm still waiting for the "bigger and better than ever".

I wouldn't waste your time or energy.
Van Halen without the original 4 is just not Van Halen.

There were two incidents that were precursers to the dome closing.

The first was publically known. Mike Anthony either lied or was mis-understood or mis-quoated as saying to some fans that "Dave was back". This started endless Mike, Ed, and Brad bashing.

The second event was not known to us. Last October is when Ed and Val seperated, and it is likely the dome was also closed in an attempt to slow down the rumours of their seperation.

Why is it still down? Probably because of costs. There is no income for Van Halen, so likely they are trying to cut their costs.

I wonder if Brad still works for Van Halen?

IMO, the "dome" was closed to keep the rumours surrounding the seperation between Eddie and Val to a minimum, or at least off of Ed's message boards. That could have gotten pretty ugly.

Dude, are you out of your mind, VH has no income right now?
I bet this year alone (2002), they will make more than most of us will in his entire life.
Back catalog sales are very strong, supported by classic rock radio all over the country. Plus every time a song gets played on the air, at football games, etc they make money.
I'm not even mentioning Peavy gear and various merchandising sales.
Plus the Sam & Dave tour was a big success, and who got the royalties from t he song played? VH.
They made several million dollars this year, even though they didn't release anything new or tour.
The reason they don't want to spend more on their website is that the website DOESN'T make money. It's a source of costs and not of revenues (apart for some merchandising sales).
VH spends $ where they think they can get some $ back, it's a simple business law.

That was me he said that to and there was *no* misunderstanding on any side, he said it clear and plain as day, things either fell apart or MA had no clue what he was talking about, and if you think about his track record it's hard not to believe the latter was the case.
