Default "Edward, you're cheating again!" -End of LWAN

Not having seen the 5150 tour, I was always fascinated by what the heck they were doing at the end of the concert vid.

Sammy has a guitar, Eddie has a guitar and they are just kind of trading licks running around the stage.

Was that a staple of their setlist? Did they do that in every show?

I never got to see VH live until 1993 , so obviously I missed the 5150 tour . The ending of the LWAN show was funny and cool IMO . It was probably included to add some more "wow" factor to an already awesome concert piece .

I don't think it was a staple of theirs , closing every gig like that . I have seen YT clips of a similar "dueling guitars" thing , right before they launch into One Way to Rock .

    Cheers

It was usually at the end of Ed's solo. Not sure if they did it every night but they did do it in Detroit when I saw e'm.

most VH live shows are pretty scripted -- scripted to feel spontaneous (yes, even when Sammy was in the band) -- so my guess is they did it most, if not every, night.

*and just before anyone takes this wrong way, I'm not suggesting scripted is bad.

    Really , eh ? Hmmm .
I've never heard of that before . There aren't any 5150 tour dvd boots in my collection - yet . Which surprises me , because I LOVE that era !!!

Sammy had a big set of cajones , to strap on a guitar and trade licks with The King , after his unaccompanied showcase solo

Sammy is fearless. He's played with a lot of great musicians, and quite frankly, they have played with him. Sammy has a powerful voice and he is an underrated rock n' roll guitarist.

Oh yeah , I was half kidding ! Ha . Sam was in the band with Ed . They were brothers at that point and had a team mentality . There was no jealousy .

Based on the guitar Eddie is playing, what his hair looks like, the time train A left California traveling at 100 mph, what Sammy is wearing, what guitar he is playing, etc. I'm assuming this took place somewhere after I can't Drive 55 and Ain't Talkin' Bout Love, but before Rock N Roll.

    Thoughts? Comments?

Actually, its a very good question. I gotta go through my bootleg shows to find out, cause I got Kansas city, Detroit and Montreal from the "5150" tour, which I haven't watched in ages.
If I remember correctly they have a guitar duel as the intro, before "You Really Got me" in which opened up the whole tour. I could be wrong though, Quite honest though I don't think the duel was done at every show.
Theres nothing in "The Van Halen encyclopedia" either regarding it.
What is understood need not be discussed

After "Ain't talkin bout love" Sammy and Eddie would do a "Guitar duel".

That's what that ending footage is.

I have an audio boot from another show and they do the same thing.

From what I remember from the bootlegs, they did some kind of duel/jam before YRGM, the opener, and a longer duel after ATBL towards the end of the show.
