    Default Dirty Water Dog

I'm not a guitar player. In my humble opinion, I think Ed's guitar sounds like Here About It Later, in the song Dirty Water Dog from VHIII. Does anyone else hear the similarities?

On a related note, I really think Dirty Water Dog could have been a great tune slightly restructured (the Journey like beginning that sounds like Separate Ways, for one, needs to be eliminated) and with Dave's singing and lyrics. Oh, and eliminate the stupid sound effects of dropping a broom or pole or whatever a couple of times. And bring the drums forward a little more. And bring in some more of the VH classic background vocals. But just those things and it would be an awesome song.

The unreleased tune "I Want Some Action" , from the 5150 sessions , is a great variation of that riff . It's a cool song !

I don't hear a liking to HAIL , but the tune is still a good one IMO .
Eddie seems to love that riff too - it's popped up in several forms over the years !

Got no problem with the song. One of the better moments from "VHIII".

"From Afar", "Once", This and "Without you" my faves.

I've bought VHIII at least three times, and I still don't like a single song off of it except for Primary, and that is what about a minute and a half long?

I always thought Primary has a little 1970's Led Zeppelin production vibe to it, but that could be 100% just me.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Dirty Water Dog is a fun song ! I like the riffs , the solo , and Ed's subtle use of the flanger during the verses . I believe he said that he turned the Regen. down to minimum ?

Why would you buy it "III" times , then ? Haha .

I always liked "Primary" as well . You're right about the Zeppelin-esque tinge to it . Good call !

I can listen to New World, Without You, One I Want, Fire in the Hole, and Ballot or the Bullet. I can, but I usually don't.

I listened to III a while ago . Maybe two weeks or so ?
New World is pretty cool . I like the D-tuned acoustic played against the piano . It's neat how Eddie spelled out the song's melody with harmonics .

I have the intro of Dirty Water Dog as the ringtone on my cell. Cool stuff. Nice groove to it.
Only song I next to always skip is Fire in the Hole.

I like that part, too, and I think it's cool that that melody in Neworld is also in Without You.

For VH3 I guess it's one of the best songs but that's saying very little. There was potential here but it's just not Van Halen. Nothing VH about Ed's tone and the drums are sterile as shit. Just a forgettable song like all the rest of them.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

    I think it's pretty terrible.

But I guess if it's Extreme Red's premise that the song would be good if they completely rewrote it and Dave sang on it, then yes I agree.
